Even though many of its followers were beginning to grow weary of the never-ending treasure hunt by the end of season 4, The Curse of Oak Island still maintained a steady fan base. The same people who had become impatient about the Lagina brothers were also the same ones begging for the network to renew the show for another season. Well, it looks like The History Channel heard the pleas; we have plenty of reason to believe that the cursed show is coming back for yet another few months of digging.
It’s all still speculation, as the network hasn’t made any official announcements just yet. But we’re a little ahead of the game because we tend to follow the brothers on social media. Recent media posts have popped up on Instagram showing various clues pointing to the return of the Lagina brothers to the screen. The timing is about right also. In previous seasons, The Curse of Oak Island always premiered in November. This must mean that filming has ended, and we can now spot Rick and Marty out of The Money Pit. This is exactly what’s been happening in social media.
We saw various posts of Rick with Oak Island fans, some of whom were possibly treasure hunters themselves. One Instagram user, @corey9843, visited Nova Scotia and posted a picture with the Lagina brothers while stating that meeting Rick Lagina was the “highlight” of his vacation, hashtagging everything the show is about: history, treasures, treasure hunting, and even the theories of pirates and the Knights Templar. We also saw a post from @BRADYJG1 on Twitter with the Lagina brothers at the same location. Surely, these fans must’ve came across the treasure hunting brothers while they were still shooting, around July and August.
Another post came on Instagram came from @fundytreasures, a local Nova Scotia business specializing in gifts and public tours. The company made a delivery to Oak Island and apparently came across the famous Rick yet again. They got into conversation about the lady’s great uncle (x5) Anthony Vaughan, who happened to be one of the island’s first lot owners, ever. We can only imagine how fortuitous this meeting must’ve been for both parties and the other conversations they must’ve had about The Money Pit.

Perhaps the most convincing evidence of season 5 came from another Instagram post but this time from the show’s freelance film editor, Shane Ross. @shaman04 posted a shot of a classic Dr. Pepper bottle with a computer screen behind it. The post caption says it all: “Cutting another season of #oakisland with the unofficial beverage at hand.” We know that editing doesn’t mean it’s coming on to screen, but it’s definitely close enough. The post was also from August 24, so we know that they’re working towards some production.
The brothers have to come back for another season because we’re all just anxious about this mystifying and intriguing treasure hunt, and we’d really like to know if the treasure exists and what exactly the treasure is if it does. Whether it takes the brothers 5 or even 10 or maybe even more seasons to find the treasure, it deserves to be found, and we deserve to see it when it happens.
