This is The Wolf Robot That Protects Farmer’s Crops

This looks like it might be more effective as a Halloween lawn ornament than anything else. Are animals really fooled by this? A wolf robot that protects crops seems like an interesting thought to have but without any real motion it seems like an advanced version of a scarecrow. That’s not to take anything away from the inventor, it’s a sound enough idea, but surely animals aren’t quite so stupid as to believe that this thing would offer any real danger after the first time or so. After all, warthogs generally do stand and fight occasionally, especially if they’re hungry or have little ones with them.

There’s a good chance it would work, but what if it rains? Is this thing insulated against moisture? Will it warp or does it need to be taken in during foul weather? There are so many questions and not enough answers really.

One obvious question is whether or not the creators know what a real wolf looks like. Chances are it would still fool a warthog, but until it could move or otherwise be given some form of locomotion even the dumbest animal would eventually be able to figure out that it could be avoided while going after the crops. Like I said, good idea but the execution was kind of iffy. Maybe this is a first generation model, which would explain why it still seems fairly rudimentary. Seriously, this doesn’t look like it would scare much more than a bird if it happened to land close by.

It’s very true that animals don’t think the same way that humans do, but even animals can if necessary deduce what’s actually dangerous and what’s just a fake out. It might take a few dozen more times but in all honesty it seems more likely that this would work a couple of times and then become utterly useless. But I’m not a farmer or a tech designer so really I don’t know as much as I might want to think.

All I know is that it sounds like a good idea and looks like someone really needs to go back to the drawing board. This thing looks like a C-rate movie monster complete with the fake rubber mask. Even if the eyes glow and it can emit a variety of different sounds wouldn’t you think that an animal would eventually get used to the same sounds over and over? This wolf protector seems more like the method used by those that don’t want to simply shoot the warthogs for trying to get after their crops but can’t seem to find a way to keep them from eating their fill.

It sounds like a very big problem but this mechanized ‘wolf’ doesn’t seem like it’s the endall that these people want it to be. I’ll say it one more time, it’s a sound idea, but it really needs some work before being finalized. And for crying out loud, take an art class and figure out what a real wolf looks like.
