“Heathers” Promo: First Look At Paramount Network Series Based On the Movie

It seems nowadays we have to bring everything back to life in some new way. We can’t just let the old shows and movies rest as they deserve. Heathers was a disturbingly unique film about an equally disturbed young man that went on a killing spree thanks to the desire of a young woman to get even with the people in her life that were ruining her reputation. Given a chance she might have ruined them in return but J.D. had other plans. The first victim dies by Drano, the second and third by gun. That however was just the beginning for J.D., who wanted something a little more noticeable to happen.

This new look at Heathers as a TV show is no doubt going to go a bit deeper into the story and offer a much bigger buildup to the final moments of its stars. That’s a guess as of now but a TV show doesn’t do very well if it starts killing off the talent early on. Some shows would argue that this is precisely what is needed, but this show doesn’t seem like it would be doing itself any favors if that was how it began.

Heathers is of course about the inherent meanness of high school and what it can do to individuals that aren’t wary of their place in the entire scheme. All it takes is someone with influence to screw your life up and every day from that point on becomes an unending nightmare that promises nothing less than pain and humiliation on a scale that only those in high school really know about at times. In this version of Heathers however it seems that things are going to be roughly the same, but with enough differences that it could develop into something very interesting.

Veronica is still going to deliver the iconic line, “f— me gently with a chainsaw’, which is something that lifelong fans should enjoy, but will no doubt find herself at odds with the Heathers as in the film. The differences that seem to exist so far however are that the killings will take place over a larger span of time and will be different than those in the film. Whether those that died in the film will meet their end in the same way has yet to be seen, but there’s a good chance that the show will stick to the source material just enough to make the fans happy. But the chances are good that there will still be enough different deaths that are caused either by Veronica or J.D. that will be just as interesting.

Plus, it seems like J.D. is only going to have one episode in which he shows up. How can that be? Isn’t he bound to be an integral part of this show? He was important in the movie so why wouldn’t he be given more prominence in the show?

So many questions so far, and so few answers. I guess we’ll just have to watch the show then.
