The rap game is changing every few years and new names are coming out like wildfire it seems.Vic Mensa has been around for a little while but his sound has been on the down low for just as long. He’s worked along with a number of famous celebrities and been featured in quite a few singles, but his own star is still on the rise. Chances are he might stay where he is and move into a bigger role behind the scenes eventually like some of the greats have done or he could make a breakout album and really start to reach people in the same manner as other rappers that have gone on to become world famous. No matter where he goes he’s already a celebrity.
Here’s a few more things you might not have known about Vic.
5. His given name is Victor Kwensi Mensah.
A stage name is usually a lot more impressive than one’s real name unless your real name is impressive all on its own. Vic’s stage name isn’t too different from his given name which is kind of nice. It says a lot about a person that wants to seek fame using the name that they were given at birth. In some ways it’s a great deal of respect that is given to those that helped get them to where they are now.
4. He’s worked with the Gorillaz and Kanye West.
As it was mentioned above Vic has worked with a good number of celebrities in his career thus far, and the Gorillaz and Kanye West are just a couple of good examples. He’s been the backup for a few performers and even had other celebrities help on his album. It’s a give and take kind of thing the music industry and Vic knows how to give as good as he gets.
3. He has a wide variety of famous artists that he cites as his influences.
Vic cites influences such as Nirvana, Missy Elliott, Jimi Hendrix, Guns N’ Roses, Biggie Smalls, AC/DC, Nas, and many others as those that influence his music. It’s kind of nice that he has such a wide interest in so many styles of music, it tends to give a musician a much wider base from which to operate.
2. He’s the founder of the hip hop collective Savemoney.
This collective originated in Chicago where Vic has lived his entire life and is made up of several rappers that he’s come to know throughout his years. Such a group makes it possible to bounce ideas off of one another and collaborate on any projects that might need some help or benefit from the inclusion of other members.
1. He’s signed to Roc Nation.
Roc Nation was founded in 2008 by Jay-Z, a rapper that Mensa has actually worked with and counts among his many influences. There’s no doubt he’s found the place that will work the best for him and allow him to expound as he needs to.
Vic Mensa might be another Biggie Smalls or Tupac, but he’s got enough heart and passion to be a big name one of these days.
