Five Scenes in Movies Where Microwaves are the Main Characters

It gets used so often that we take it for granted, even in movies. The microwave is one unique invention that takes away the need to slave over a hot stove all day and can give you a hot meal in only a matter of minutes. It’s not the most recommended way to eat but it gets you by and can at least be useful from time to time. In the movies it’s actually used quite often we just don’t take notice of it that much. But in some cases it’s easy to see since it’s placed front and center. In fact it’s used in a way that we can really relate to in some movies and in others it’s used in a less savory way that is flat out appalling to most, well everyone really.

But the one thing you can’t call a microwave is useless, unless it’s broken.

5. Twins

Now looking at these two who would you guess was raised on nuked food? Julian knew nothing about this part of civilization until he came to the states looking for his brother. Vincent was more than happy, after a while, to show him everything he’d learned in the long course of his life. Nuked food was only one of the delights, but it was something new and interesting to Julian.

4. Gremlins

What? It was useful in this scene. So what if she had to toss one of the little green guys in there and hit the power button? It was probably one of the most iconic death scenes in movie history and to be honest it’s been one of the most remembered scenes throughout cinema ever since. Even the Family Guy did kind of an homage to it when they slammed Fran Drescher’s head in the microwave.

3. She-Devil

Never mess with a woman that’s already been pushed beyond her limit. To be honest the microwave in this scene was just the icing in the cake really. Once this sucker blew it was already way past the point of no return. This part just kind of put the cap on an already volatile situation. It was a nice effect though, and reminds us just what happens when you put aerosols in the microwave.

2. Zootopia

On such a bad day as this it seems like the microwave would be one of your best friends at the moment. It’s one of the only things in your life that seems to go right and it will work when you want it to. But then you open the pouch and see that little piece of withered nothing that’s supposed to be your dinner. Yeah, even the microwave can betray you sometimes.

1. Urban Legend

Technically the urban legend about this one says something about an old woman putting her dog in the oven after a bath to dry it off. Now considering that urban legends change with the retelling and also with each generation, the microwave is the logical next step  right? It’s kind of amusing that the guy on the phone is all laughs and giggles about being threatened, but falls to pieces when the killer talks about his dog being in the microwave. Priorities?

So there you have it. Despite being taken for granted a lot the microwave is front and center for a few movies at least.
