The Top Five John Heard Movie Roles of His Career

The Top Five John Heard Movie Roles of His Career

2017 is not fairing any better for keeping some of the best actors Hollywood has than the past several years have. John Heard, one of many such beloved actors, passed away on July 21st in his hotel room. While it’s not known what the cause of his passing was, it was revealed that he’d had minor back surgery not long ago. The actor was 71 years of age. His many roles in film were not widely known, though there are several for which he was well known and loved. Those roles showcased him as being either the good guy or the bad guy, both of which he played equally well.

Here are a few of his top roles.

5. Paul – Big

Paul is the big-time corporate exec with the great office, the boss’s ear, and a very good-looking girlfriend. He’s got quite the life until Josh Baskin, a virtual nobody, waltzes into his company and starts getting everyone to take note of his carefree and seemingly innovative attitude. Paul obviously doesn’t like this and stars to rebel against Josh and even sabotage him a time or two. What he doesn’t know, what no one knows, is that Josh Baskin is in fact a kid in a grown-ups body. If anyone took the time to think it would explain a lot, but granted, such things just don’t happen that often.

4. John Pierce – Beaches

The boyfriend of Cece Bloom is about all he’s known to be in this film even though he’s so much more. John kind of rides Cece’s fame to the top but quickly grows tired of the view. Besides that, Cece is just too much for any one person. Her star shines so brightly that she tends to leave people behind without even knowing about it. John eventually returns to his street-level productions where he’s happy and can go at his own pace. He doesn’t blame Cece for who she is, but he doesn’t want to follow her to the top, mostly because he doesn’t want what they had to be ruined. He’s the guy with a big heart and a love for the simpler things.

3. Vice President Ted Matthews – My Fellow Americans

As VP Ted Mathews he knows how to play the role of the dummy, but by the end of the film he’s revealed to be the mastermind behind everything that’s been going on. His need to depose the current president and ruin the reputation and lives of the former presidents eventually catches up with Ted when the former presidents eventually find out his scheme and nail him for it. In the end Ted just can’t believe what has happened or how he got caught. Even old presidents can learn new tricks.

2. John Burroughs – The Boys of Sunset Ridge

Sometimes life passes you by and all you can do is let it as you spend good times with good friends in a good place. This film shows how John Burroughs and his friends spend a large part of their life on the golf course, laughing and frolicking as they enjoy one another’s company and the best of times.

1. Peter McCallister – Home Alone

Just to be fair, Peter McCallister might seem a little clueless at times but he’s still a good dad. He tries his best for his family but let’s face it, he and his wife have a lot of kids. So when they leave one behind the two of them are of course devastated. They both go nearly crazy trying to get back to Kevin and are relieved in the end to see he’s okay. But to tell the truth, I think anyone would be a little confused to find a gold tooth on their floor with no explanation of where it had come from.

John Heard was a great actor. You will be missed sir.
