Salvation is a new suspense drama that has started being broadcast on CBS. Like its name suggests, it involves an end of the world scenario. To be exact, it involves an asteroid that is on a collision course with the Earth, which is big enough to cause the collapse of modern civilization but not big enough that it will threaten the physical integrity of the planet itself. As a result, most of the characters on the TV show are more interested in somehow preventing the asteroid from colliding into the Earth, whereas some of the characters on the TV show are more interested in preserving some portion of the human race. Something that sounds cold-hearted but becomes much more reasonable when one realizes that they have no more than a short period of time to change the course of the asteroid with no more than near-modern space capabilities. As a result, having preparations in place for the worst case scenario is just sound planning, no matter how unpleasant it might be.

Might Interest People Who Are Interested in Astronomy
For people who love astronomy, Salvation might have some additional appeal. After all, the show-makers consulted an astronomer in coming up with their narrative so as to make sure that their proposed solutions seem plausible if perhaps not possible with current space capabilities. For example, one proposal is the classic solution of shooting the asteroid with a missile, which sounds simple and straightforward but comes with a serious problem in that a shattered asteroid would cause death and destruction over a much wider area than otherwise possible.

Another example of a proposal brought up in the series is the use of a gravity tractor, which sounds like something out of science fiction but is in truth, the idea of using the gravitational pull of a man-made object to influence the course of the asteroid. Naturally, this has its fair share of problems as well, with examples ranging from getting a man-made object into the right place and making sure that the asteroid can be influenced to miss the Earth.

With that said, the reviews of the first episode suggest that Salvation might be a miss for people who have no more than an average level of interest in astronomy. Some people have mentioned that its narrative feels more cluttered than it needs, with an excellent example being how it has more than one group of people attempting to come up with a solution to the asteroid problem. As a result, they feel that Salvation doesn’t get to the point fast enough, which is a serious problem not just because of its small number of episodes but also because of its failure to deliver on the action thriller potential of its promise.
However, other people have also mentioned that the TV show spends too much time with its characters uttering line after line at one another rather than do anything that might actually prove interesting.
