Connie Nielsen, Danish born actress was not born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but she used raw talent and a lot of hard work to achieve her dreams of becoming an accomplished actress. Her father was a bus driver and her mother an insurance clerk who made sure Connie got to local venues to pursue her goals. After moving to the United States in the 1990s, Connie’s career began to take off.

Christabella Andreoli
Connie landed this part in the 1997 film “The Devils Advocate.” She appeared opposite Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino. Although not a major role, it did provide her with a minor breakthrough that would lead to bigger and better roles in the near future. Her role was big enough to give her some needed exposure. Being cast alongside two superstars of this magnitude didn’t hurt her either.
Princess Lucilla
Nielsen appeared in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” in 2000. Landing the role of Princess Lucilla in this epic blockbuster was perhaps one of the best breaks of her career. She starred opposite Jaoquin Phoenix and Russell Crowe in the Academy Award Winning film. The movie gave her the opportunity to show her versatility in a leading role and put her in front of millions of viewers. The quality and popularity of the film was a boost to everyone involved so this was perhaps the break that she needed to hit the ground running in Hollywood circles.
Margaret Utinsky
Connie appeared in the 2005 film “The Great Raid” opposite Benjamin Bratt, Joseph Fiennes and James Franco. The movie focused on the five hundred American Soldiers who were sequestered into a camp for a three year period. Rangers come in to attempt to save them at the end of World War II. Neilsen played the part of Margaret Utinsky. Appearing in this major motion picture was an additional boost for her career.
Hippolyta
One of her more recent film parts is as Hippolyta in the 2017 film production of Wonder Woman. In her role as Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, she is also the mother of Diana, or Wonder Woman. The legend has it that the queen crafted a baby fro clay and used magical influence to give her life. When her daughter, the princess Dianna wanted to compete in a tournament, Hippolyta tried to prevent her because she didn’t want her to enter the world of man and face losing immortality. Diana disguised herself to compete and win the competition and her hesistant mother had no choice but to allow her to go.
Summer
Connie appears in the movie “Stratton” in the role of Summer. The film was released in 2017 and adds to the collection of recent appearances that she has been making in film. The movie is directed by Simon West and the plot centers around a British Special Boat Service commando. He is commissioned with tracking an international terrorist group.
Final thoughts
Connie Nielsen is also set to appear in four other projects which are at various stages of production.
