TV fans have been receiving news about the status of their favorite shows as networks get ready to present their fall lineups to advertisers next week. ABC played the grim reaper last night and put an end to several of its series including The Catch, Dr. Ken, and American Crime. However, the network did decide to bring back some more of its popular series including Black-ish. The comedy starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, will return for season 4. The news was announced last night, the same day the series aired its heartfelt season three finale.
The renewal for Black-ish is not the only great news in store for fans of the popular series. Freeform is eyeing a spin-off series that will have Zoey heading off to college. The May 3rd episode of Black-ish was used as the backdoor pilot in hopes the series would be picked up by a network.
Black-ish has been a staple in ABC’s popular Wednesday night lineup. The Goldbergs and Modern Family both received a two season renewal which will keep both series on the air through 2019. American Housewife will also be returning for a second season on ABC this fall.
Stacy Traub will join Black-ish next season as executive producer. She previously worked on The Real O’Neals and will make a smooth transition over to the new series after receiving news her sitcom would not be returning for a third season in the Fall. Traub had extended a two-year deal with the alphabet network.
Black-ish is currently one of ABC’s top rated series. The comedy averages over 5 million viewers each week. Anderson and Ross have both received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for their work on the series. Ross even took home the Golden Globe this year for her portrayal of Rainbow Johnson.
