Drone Footage Shows Alarmingly Large Number of Sharks Just Inches Off The Beach

The photo above might just look like some sort of dirty sand cloud in the ocean but upon closer inspection you’ll see that it’s much more alarming than a little dust rising in the water.   The cloud that you see are in fact mullet.  And the areas that show the cloud clearing up are actually nurse sharks eating the mullet.  Dramatic drone footage from high above Fingal Bay in Port Stephens, Australia, has captured the full extent of a shark hunt off the popular strip.

During this particular feeding frenzy, authorities were forced to close the beach to swimming, but the event also drew crowds onto the sand to watch. Footage from this month, uploaded to YouTube by Damian Hurley, offers a bird’s eye view of the sharks doing what they do best among the thick tide of fish.

While this particular type of behavior is common in Australia and other regions of the world, it still makes me think to myself, “why the hell would anyone ever swim in the ocean in Australia?”  Check out the awesome footage below:
