Can someone explain to me what the hell is going on with news analysts today? Are we this jaded that we can’t simply report on the news without having to refer to it in some biased or completely inappropriate way? First we got Mr. Major on CNN comparing the Syria strikes to Kentucky basketball. Now Brian Williams is caught using the word “beautiful” when talking about missile strikes on live television today. This is the same Brian Williams who blatantly lied to the public in 2015 about his war experiences in Iraq (that never happened) and was suspended from his job for six months for doing so. Williams got dropped from NBC’s Nightly News and now has a spot at MSNBC, not nearly as high profile. Here’s what Williams said today.
“We see these beautiful pictures at night from the decks of these two US Navy vessels in the eastern Mediterranean,” Williams told his viewers on “The 11th Hour.”
“I am tempted to quote the great Leonard Cohen: ‘I am guided by the beauty of our weapons,’” he added. “They are beautiful pictures of fearsome armaments making what is for them a brief flight over to this airfield.”
Williams was quoting Cohen’s 1987 song “First We Take Manhattan,” which the singer had described as a response to terrorism in 1988. Needless to say the internet was fuming.
