At Some Point We’re Going to Need a Feature Film About Jimi Hendrix

I’m not taking anything away from the movie Jimi: All is by My Side which came out in 2013 but come on.  This was a very small picture at a budget of $5 million.   Plus Andre 3000 AKA Andre Benjamin even went on record in saying that he regretted taking on the role.  The Outkast member also shared regretting his decision to take on the burden of playing a musical icon. “Midway through shooting, ‘I was like man why did I take this job? Who plays Hendrix? He’s the coolest guy in the world. There were times when I was like man, ‘I think I’ve done more than I can handle,'” he said.

Anyway, let’s get back to it.  You know that somewhere out there the idea’s been pitched and for whatever reason we just can’t get the go ahead.   What’s holding Hollywood back?  The hardest part would obviously be to find someone to play Hendrix.  Solution?  Donald Glover.  Let’s just see how good an actor you are Donald.  I personally see him as being the perfect person to play Hendrix.

There’s just too much of a story here for film producers to pass up.  What’s the hold up?  If not one, but two Hendrix movies could be made (there was a TV movie in 2000) then sure the big brass at the studios can get this project underway.

P.S I think a great director for this would have been Ted Demme if he hadn’t passed away.  Maybe Richard Linklater could tackle this?  I’d say Oliver Stone but the movie would be way too insane.

What do you guys think?
