Looking back in the all-time pantheon of stupid 80s movies, Weekend at Bernie’s makes the cut because it came out in 1989. But when you look back on it, just how great was it? That there was a sequel is completely unacceptable but that a movie even got made about two guys trying to make everyone believe a dead guy is alive is just so 80s and it’s perfection. While the movie has its moments that even hold up today, my favorite has to be the “Got a little scotch?” moment.
It’s the moment that Bernie’s girlfriend comes down the stairs after having her way with Bernie in the bedroom. Tina (her character’s name) comes down the stairs, sits on a chair and utters the line “Got a little scotch?” I don’t know why but it’s just a great line. Maybe it’s the way actress Catherine Parks says it. I don’t know.
Look, Weekend at Bernie’s is horrible. But it falls under the “so bad its good” moniker so it’s completely acceptable. In fact I’d even place it in my list of “movie placeholders” which in case you forgot is a classification of movie that can always be watched while you’re waiting on another program.
Here’s Catherine Parks at her best. Here line comes at about 1:03.
