As a former high school basketball player I can tell you first hand that I’ve had experience coaching little kids. While you know that you have to be patient with the kids and emphasize sportsmanship and teamwork more than anything, the most frustrating part of it is the little skills they in fact possess. Usually when kids are around 10 and younger they don’t have the most clean dribbling or shooting skills. As a coach it’s tough to display patience when your players are literally running with the ball without dribbling. But one thing I always tried to adhere to was encouraging the kids no matter what. You wait a little till they’re older to really start coming down on them. When they’re younger it’s about learning and fun.
Why do I bring up this story? Because that’s not how all youth coaches are. Some of these guys are like the psychotic fathers you see at little league games. They scream, yell, go insane and overreact in a manner that can only be described as “pathetic.”
However, when I saw this clip of a coach at a youth basketball game he took it to a new level. In fact he did something that I think all coaches have wanted to do at some point. I wish I knew what happened after this coach makes the block of the year. Check him out screaming in the beginning too. It’s awesome.
