Fedor Emelianenko’s Bellator Debut Has Been Canceled

You don’t hear about fights getting canceled just hours before the bell rings but that appears to be the case for tonight’s Bellator card.   Just after Bellator acquired one of their newest and most prized fighters Fedor Emelianko, his fight with Matt Mitrione has been cancelled.  As it turns out it’s not even on Fedor’s side.  It’s because of Mitrione.   According to Uproxx

The MMA vet has been pulled due to illness and the Bellator 172 headline tilt is a no-go. A substitute was searched for with nothing acceptable popping up at such short notice. As a result, the lightweight clash of Josh Thomson vs. Patricky “Pitbull” Freire will take over as the main event.

Bellator is already scrambling to find a suitable date for a Fedor Emelianko debut.  While Fedor’s popularity isn’t what it once was, the heavyweight is still a big draw.  Spike TV, the network who is hosting this card is just a tad upset right now.  Looks like all eyes will be on NBA All-Star weekend tonight.
