In what can only be considered to be an extremely awkward moment, Roger Goodell had to do his commissioner duties at the end of the Super Bowl and boy did he get booed. His commissioner duties are to congratulate the owner, coach, and star of the game as well as hand them the Lombardi trophy. You can imagine how weird it must have been considering Tom Brady was Goodell’s official target in Deflategate. Brady received a four game suspension at the beginning of the season for his alleged involvement in what will go down as one of the most ridiculous scandals in NFL history.
What’s more interesting is that ever since Deflategate, Goodell’s received enormous amounts of criticism for how he handled it as well as other issues that have arisen in the NFL. While owners might still like Goodell for his financial acumen, players and fans do not have a highly favorable rating of the league’s commissioner.
So when Goodell had to hand the trophy to owner Robert Kraft and shake Tom Brady’s hand, you can imagine it must have been pretty weird. Then again, Goodell himself would tell you it wasn’t awkward. While that may be true, the decibel level of boos that Roger Goodell received had to make him feel just a tad salty. And if you look kind of closely you can see Tom Brady and Bill Belichick chuckling in the background. Check out the video below:
