While we all may have seen the final trailer for Logan, that doesn’t stop Fox from releasing new images from the movie. One of the most anticipated characters, Caliban, played by Stephen Merchant is the last image to be released. Weapon X’s instagram account released this black and white image yesterday. While we know that Caliban is set to act as a caretaker to Professor X in the movie, the studio has done a pretty good job of keeping mum on anything else about the character.
Does anyone else think of the movie Dark Man when seeing this image or is it just me? There are just too many questions about Caliban that need to be answered. Why is his face this way? What’s with the mask? Why is he so tall other than the fact that Stephen Merchant is actually that tall in real life? Perhaps we will learn some new information before the movie is out in the theaters. Until then we can probably expect more of these cryptic photos, which honestly are pretty awesome.
This is what Logan director James Mangold said about Merchant playing Caliban
“I’m always interested to find the thing that looks most interesting on the actors. Stephen is a huge man. One of the things that is so wonderful filming with him for a character like this is that he’s a good six inches taller than Logan, and huge over Patrick. The little kid in the movie would come up to basically his knee. So there’s a wonderful sense of scale — but he has heart too. So that was a wonderful energy to enter the movie, and someone who instead of turning things into their own energy kind of joined ours.”
Logan stars Hugh Jackman, Dafne Keen, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, and Patrick Stewart. It’s currently set to be released on March 3rd, 2017
