Lethal Weapon Season 1 Episode 12 Review “Brotherly Love”

Lethal Weapon

On this week’s episode of Lethal Weapon, Riggs shows just how much he cares and Roger and Trish go head to head.

When someone tries to breaks into the police impound lot to try and steal a car, Riggs and Murtaugh catch the case and quickly realize that there is cocaine hidden inside the door panels of the car.  When Murtaugh releases the car and evidence to go back to the lab it is stolen causing Murtaugh and Riggs to go on a chase.

Things quickly take a turn when Murtaugh starts having chest pains.  Concerned for his health Riggs abandons the chase and takes Murtaugh to the hospital.  After finding out that he is ok Riggs tells Murtaugh he needs to follow the doctor’s orders and take it easy, but Murtaugh wants to work the case anyway and tells Riggs not to say anything to Trish.

In the middle of them avoiding telling Captain Avery what actually happened, Bailey comes in and says the blood that was found at the crime scene was a match to Dino Brant.  He is connected to Angelo Cascino a fence who has been on The LAPD’s radar  for years.

When Bailey says that Dino works as a fry cook at a diner, Riggs sends Murtaugh to sign in the drugs that they found and to write up the report while he goes to check out the diner himself. (I really loved this moment because it shows how concerned Riggs was about Murtaugh’s Health.)

When Riggs arrives he starts going through Dino’s locker but gets caught by Dino who quickly takes off running.  Riggs chases after him and once they get outside Dino pulls a gun on Riggs and asks to see his badge which he doesn’t have on him.  Before Dino can shoot him Murtaugh shows up and they take Dino in.

While Riggs and Murtaugh are in the middle of an argument about the fact that Riggs went to the diner alone, Trish shows up angry at Riggs and Murtaugh because she is Dino’s mentor and lawyer.  After talking to Dino, Trish tells Riggs and Murtaugh they got the wrong guy and that she will see them at the arraignment.

Meanwhile, Bailey and Cruz goes to talk to Dino’s brother Jerry to get more evidence they can use in court.  Bailey and Cruz quickly realize Jerry is lying, after Cruz talks about his brother, Jerry spits on his shoes.  At the courthouse Riggs gets ready to go on the stand against Trish at the arraignment.  Knowing that he can’t lie under oath Riggs tells Trish the truth about what happened to Murtaugh that day causing Murtaugh to be angry with him.

Scorsese tells Riggs that the blood from the impound lot was a match to the saliva on Cruz’s boot which means Jerry was the one who broke into the impound lot not Dino.  Murtaugh forgives Riggs for telling Trish about his heart on the stand, and then they go, to tell Trish she was right.

Dino meets with Angelo Cascino who tells him he inherited his brothers debt and he has to get Angelo’s two million dollars back or his brother dies.  Meanwhile, Murtaugh finds out that the reason he is having chest pains is because his pacemaker is defective and needs to be replaced.  He also tells Trish to call Dino and set a meeting between him, Murtaugh and Riggs because he can help them.  Trish agrees and she realizes Dino is in trouble and calls Riggs for help.  Riggs finds him and is able to bring him in.

Riggs and Murtaugh come up with a plan to use  the two million in cocaine from the evidence room to save Jerry’s life.  Riggs talks Monty (who we see earlier in the episode) into giving them the two million in cocaine they need from the evidence lockup by talking about Murtaugh.

Once they arrive at the place they are set to meet Angelo, Murtaugh puts a wire on Dino.  Then goes to wait in the van while Riggs handcuffs himself to the steering wheel to make it look like Dino kidnaped him.  But things don’t go exactly as planned when after getting his cocaine Angelo has Riggs pushed into the bay.  In the process of escaping from the car Riggs loses his wedding ring in the water. (Which is something he and Dr. Cahill talked about earlier in the episode.)

Murtaugh comes in and kills Angelo’s guys then jumps into the water to save Riggs but he has already made it to the surface.  Riggs and Murtaugh talk to Captain Avery who is upset at them for forging his signature to get the cocaine out of lock up but in the end tells them all that matters is that they caught Angelo Cascino.  He tells Murtaugh he knew about his heart issues.
At the end of the episode Trish tells Dino if his brother Jerry will testify against Angelo she will cut him a deal with the D.A.   Dr Cahill notices that Riggs ring is gone.  Murtaugh gets a new Pacemaker put in and Riggs buys another Ring.

Overall I thought this episode was really well done aside from the scene when Murtaugh and Riggs say they are going to go tell Trish she was right.  But Murtaugh doesn’t actually tell her she’s right until they’re alone later which doesn’t make sense. The episode flowed  together very well.

Other  thoughts:

RJ goes to look at new cars but we never actually find out if he bought one.
