Robert Downey Jr. Gives Jimmy Fallon Acting Tips on The Tonight Show

Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., stopped by The Tonight Show last night to promote Captain America: Civil War, which finally hits theaters today in the United States. However, Downey didn’t just talk with Jimmy Fallon last night; their interview actually turned into a bit of an acting lesson.

Fallon commended Downey for his performance in all of the Marvel films, specifically mentioning how natural it seems for the Iron Man star to deliver both comedy and drama while walking around in the superhero suit. He asked Downey if there’s ever been anything he has had trouble with on set; have there ever been any scenes that he has had problems with and needed to do second takes for?

As Downey explained, the issues he has while acting are with the more simple dramatic scenes. He struggles with opening the door and pretending to be surprised by the person standing behind it, who has actually been there the whole time just waiting for their cue, or driving” scenes where he’s not actually driving, which just feel awkward to him.

To ensure that Fallon really understood what he was talking about, Downey coached the Tonight Show host through scenes similar to what he was describing. However, this being Robert Downey Jr. of course, he added in some extra, fun color to the scenarios Fallon was supposed to be acting in. The whole thing is a blast to watch.
