Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 Episode 4 Review: ”Devils You Know”

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

On this week’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hunter’s plan to infiltrate Hydra takes a turn for the worse, while Coulson and his team continue the partner-up with Rosalind and the ATCU as they encounter Lash, who we learn a huge secret about.

There is no other way to say this: I’m incredibly happy with Lash and how Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been using him so far, and I’m not even familiar with the character that much from the comic books. The show has introduced a number of Marvel Comics characters over the course of its run, and only a few have ended up as my personal favorites, like Mockingbird, Deathlok, and now Lash. It’s definitely the impressive visuals on him and costume/make-up that make me nerd out all about him.

Daisy and Mack try to take Lash down in this week’s episode, as he targets an Inhuman who is basically like an Inhuman GPS,as he experiences negative side effects whenever he is close to one of his kind. Unfortunately, due to Lash being as big as he is, Daisy and Mack aren’t able to stop him, but Daisy does learn a big new detail about Lash: he can turn into a regular human whenever he wants and not just look like the beast that he is. Now, there is a big new mystery to Lash: who is he really? I bet we will find out by the tenth episode, which is most likely going to be the mid-season finale, based on previous seasons. Overall, Lash is just a character I’m having a blast with.

Because this is a comic book show, I’m not ready to say whether Andrew Garner is dead or not. Because we didn’t see a full body shot and just the shot of two legs, there is still the chance that he is still alive. Besides, I don’t think the show would get rid of Blair Underwood that easily, especially because of his character’s ties with May. Although if he is indeed dead, I can only imagine that May is going to put Hunter through all sorts of hell. I’m guessing at this point that there might be this big reveal that a) he passed out and came to just before the fire, or b) it was someone else’s legs that we saw lying there and he got away. It was, however, fun seeing May and Hunter versus Ward, who continues to be one of the coolest characters on this show. I swear to Marvel that I could just watch Ward be sassy for a full hour, and it would be one of the greatest episodes of all-time.

I’m taking my time with this whole team-up between S.H.I.E.L.D. and ACTU, because while I enjoy it to some degree, I also have some problems with it. I think I’m just not used to seeing Coulson having to team up with an opponent, and I get nervous whenever I see Rosalind near Daisy because you can tell so easily that she is fascinated by her, in every single bad way there is.
