I’m just putting it out there: I was not looking forward to last night’s Dancing With the Stars. For the past two years since the show started doing the Switch-Up, where it changes the celebrity’s dancing partner based on viewer’s votes for a week, I haven’t liked it. Several pairs even said that now that we have our chemistry and our fire, you’re about to go work with someone else and they were right. As usual, everyone played it off as either being like Week One again as they put their newly acquired skills to work with their new partners.
Surprisingly, though, I didn’t actually think it was that bad. I’m not sure what the difference was this year. It was all the same: the format, the comparisons between the old and new pros, etc. What I did notice that was different, though (Okay, so there was one thing…), between most of the pairings, was how much the new professionals helped to elevate the stars to the next level. Take Carlos and Lindsay for example. He had been riding in the middle of the pack until last night when he got a 39. Carrie Ann thanked Lindsay for helping him achieve that, for helping him break through. Also, take Alexa and Derek. After her slip last week, both her and permanent partner Mark were disappointed. Not only did Derek help her get the first perfect score of the season, which I was sure was going to go to his permanent partner Bindi, but he also gave her confidence-building exercises that she can use later on in the competition.
Many of the stars used this week as an opportunity to push forward. As Louis said, this might seem like a time to goof off but it’s not. Andy cancelled a concert this week! If that isn’t dedication, I’m not sure what is, and it showed as he and Sharna he got a score of 36.
Even Alex and Emma, who were robbed of points with a score of 29, made a dramatic improvement. Their dance was so amazing and so much of an advancement over last week’s. Now, I can’t judge dance. I don’t know my ‘arms’ and where ‘my eet go.’ I somewhat like for the simpler things, like if people if are in sync with each other, if the professional is the one doing all of the dancing, etc. Last night, Alex really showed some emotion, and the judges should’ve realized that! Finally, Paula and Mark should team up more often because when they did, it got her, as Carrie Ann put it, “Best dance ever!”
There was no elimination last night on Dancing With the Stars, which was pretty shocking. The show is going to combine last week’s scores with this week’s scores to eliminate a couple next week. So, while some of the people who are currently in the middle really stood out this week, it’s all combined together anyway.
Here are the current rankings:
- Bindi- 29 + 37 – 66
- Carlos- 25 + 39 — 64
- Alexa- 21 + 40 — 61
- Andy- 23 + 36 — 59
- Hayes- 27 + 31- 58
- Tamar- 27 + 29 — 56
- Alex- 24 + 29 – 53
- Paula- 18 + 26 – 44
