Hello, TVOvermind readers! With the Castle Season 8 premiere less than a week away, ABC released the screener for the first episode, called “XY.” Now, obviously, I can’t tell you all about it. Where’s the fun in that? However, what Castle premiere spoilers I can reveal are some good ones to know! Are you interested? Then keep reading!
Those readers who have read my previous writings about Castle on other websites know that I’m not one to pull punches on a bad episode. So, if you’ve been on the fence as to whether or not you should tune into the Castle Season 8 premiere, these are the spoilers you want to read!
Castle Season 8 Premiere: Is It Worth Watching?
The short answer about whether or not you should you watch the Castle Season 8 premiere is yes! I’m not going to say it’s perfect, but there is some real potential for great storytelling being presented. Here are some quick pointers:
- Do Not Change the Channel Before the Commercial Break: In other words, make yourself watch the first 10 minutes. Some of you may want to turn the channel before that. I can say this because I wanted to turn it off myself. Trust me, just keep watching.
- There Is No Shortage of Beckett in This Episode: I know what we’ve read and heard in previous spoilers about how the former detective, now Captain, Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) is not much in the episode. Actually, she is very present through most of it. (I’ll talk about this in my review!)
- The Bromance Is Still On: Detectives Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas) continue to be used wonderfully. They are comfortably familiar in this changing landscape. Really, they are the anchor in this episode.
- The Relationship Between Castle and Beckett Is Definitely Highlighted: Throughout the series, there have come to be many forms of what we call “Caskett” – several of those forms occur in the Season 8 premiere.
- The Appearance of Senator Bracken Is Important: When Senator William Bracken (Jack Coleman) shows up, you’ll want to pay attention. That’s all I can say about that.
- Richard Castle Is Still Our Castle: Those that feared that writer Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) was going to turn into some kind of super-spy can relax. Charming, goofy, but fierce about those he loves, our Castle is still very much intact!
- Beware of Spiders: For those who have a thing about spiders…there will come a point where you’ll want to close your eyes. You’ll know when. Don’t worry, it doesn’t last long!

Well, I guess writer’s were actually not exaggerating or trying to make it look as if the show’s focus is on Caskett, the new character stirs the show up, Alexis gets older, everything, Stana is in the premiere. Bad promotion strategies though, I mean when they have everything they say they do, they should make sure everybody knows about it. Now finally exciting again for the premiere, heard some good dialogues and scenes in it.
You know if I thought it was awful I would say so. LOL! I did not stay it was perfect though – I expect there will be some interesting discussions once it airs. ;) Enjoy the premiere! :)
I didn’t mean you said it was perfect, but it definitely wasn’t as bad as all the promotions and hints had made it seem like, I think.
Generally speaking I agree. :)
I would watch no matter what, but thanks for the great info. Seriously excited and interested in what will happen!
You know I go for fair and honest. I’m glad that it’s better than expected. :)
Though I think after the 2 parter a lot won’t like it
I haven’t seen part two yet, so I can’t comment. :)
Joy, It looks like you did a makeover as well as Castle. The latest spoilers and interviews not too encouraging for season 8; Lots of Alexis, Castle PI, Caskett secrets and ongoing conflicts; maybe normal marriage and relationship in the new producers’ world, but not mine or most viewers; presents as a reset to season 4.
Mmm…not quite. I felt it deserved to be watched so I focused on the positive, while hinting at some issues. On the other hand…a normal marriage? With Richard Castle and Kate Beckett? They aren’t ordinary, they’re extraordinary. I think a “normal” marriage isn’t fair to either character. My review should be out soon. Check it out and then we’ll chat. :)
