Chicago Fire Season 3 Episode 22 Review: “Category 5”

Chicago Fire

This week on Chicago Fire, a sneaking suspicion turns into an intense accusation aimed at Rice, and it threatens to tear the whole firehouse apart.

Otis still believes he is right about Rice ducking out of fires, and he doesn’t even need to verbally articulate his feelings for them to cause tension in the house. Rice further fuels the fire voicing his opinions about Truck vs. Squad to Severide, which results in an ugly confrontation with Otis. Casey is extremely upset that Otis and Cruz have been snooping around Rice, especially because since he is Truck Leader, he is responsible. So Otis believes he is right, Rice denies any wrongdoing, and both Severide and Casey just want everyone to shut up.

That becomes impossible when Boden gets wind of the tension and demands the situation be straightened out. The opposite happens, and Severide gets physical with Otis. It’s a move that threatens to undo all of the progress Severide and Casey have made as friends, and Boden orders Otis to let Severide handle anything that happens with Rice. Things start to simmer down after Severide saves members of Truck during a call, but he does his due diligence and formally asks Rice to confirm he didn’t abandon a call. Rice once again denies the accusation, but no longer considers Severide his ally.

As if Casey didn’t have enough to worry about, Jack Nesbitt tries to rehire Casey on construction for the rest of his clubs, going so far as to court him with expensive gifts. Casey isn’t biting, and calls from Sergeant Voight further depress his mood. Given their ugly history, Casey isn’t so inclined to help Voight when he asks him to go undercover to catch Nesbitt in his criminal activities. So Voight gets Antonio to talk to Gabby to talk Casey into going back to Nesbitt, who is in the middle of a prostitute trafficking ring. Casey gets his job back, this time really working for Voight and Intelligence. He goes into the club with a rigged phone, and we can only hope he doesn’t get caught.

Also in the episode, Herman tries to help Chili brand her champagne product, but is a little too eager to realize that Chili doesn’t have the funds to make it happen. Herman believes in Chili’s product, and offers to host a fundraiser at Molly’s for her. Due to the inner-house conflict, Chili’s marketing pitch gets cut abruptly short, and sadly, she doesn’t get the support from her new house that she was excited about. Herman doesn’t want Chili to lose all her money in an investment that doesn’t have as much support, so he encourages her to hold off for awhile. She decides to push forward, though; her late father believed in the product, and she doesn’t believe in quitting. Inspired and proud, Herman decides to take out a loan on Molly’s to help Chili with her start-up.

Will Casey succeed in his temporary alliance with Voight?
