Last night was the “Most Memorable Year” episode of Dancing With the Stars but it seemed to me to be just another type of theme episode rather than an unforgettable one. Yes, I’ll always look back and think that Suzanne’s final farewell to John Ritter was very nice and that Chris’ dance was simplistically simple, as Julianne put it, which was a good thing. Still, I feel that things like that can be any week. You can have a few great dances and a few that have to be worked on. I was truly looking forward to this week for some “memorable” dances, if you’ll excuse my pun, but I feel like it failed to deliver.
For all of the years chosen for the dances, they were extremely memorable to the star for some reason. For example, Nastia chose the year she won the gold medal in the Olympics. She was proud of that moment, that year, and it showed in the scores. However, it was the contestants who spoke of some traumatic event in their life which helped them move forward that I think stuck with the audience the most, or at least it did for me. The viewers understood when Robert said that his year was the year he lost his mom (who also, coincidentally, loved Dancing With the Stars), or Noah’s choice of the year he lost his limbs. On a side note, he was unconscious for six days, then after what he went through only to become the man who dances on our television screens every Monday night? His was the story that made me want to cry. With these types of stories, you don’t want the judges to give them points because they feel bad but you somewhat do!
Also, I know that a lot of people did dances about years that went great for them, like Suzanne did for the year she got cast in Three’s Company. I liked her dance, because not only did it take place in the Three’s Company set to the Three’s Company theme song, but it was her final farewell to her friend John Ritter. It had a joke from the original show too. That was very nice.
Eventually, it was revealed that Michael and Peeta were the couple being sent home. Do I think the right couple went home? No. The guy just lost his phony grin! I’ve already got a schedule of sorts in my mind for which couple should be sent home which week until about the last three. Even in these earlier weeks, it’s clear to who the best dancers and most deserving couples are. Now we just have to wait and see how it all plays out.
