A Texas shopper has finally learned her fate after a seemingly small disagreement took a devastating turn.
It started with a door held open and two words that apparently were never said: “thank you.”
What followed was an argument that moved from one store to another before ending in a parking lot with a woman losing her life.
Now, more than a year after the shocking incident, Keona Hampton has faced the consequences for what happened to 41-year-old Cecilia Simpson.
An argument over a simple “thank you” reportedly started the devastating chain of events

The incident happened on October 7, 2025, at a shopping plaza in Dallas, Texas.
According to police documents, Cecilia Simpson had held the door open for Keona Hampton at a Five Below store. However, Hampton allegedly did not thank her.
Simpson reportedly became upset, and the two women got into an argument, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Simpson and her daughter eventually left the store and drove to a nearby PetSmart in the same shopping plaza. But the argument wasn’t over.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Hampton allegedly followed them to the second store.
Simpson reportedly told a PetSmart employee that Hampton was following her. Soon after, Hampton entered the store and allegedly began arguing with Simpson and her daughter, per FOX 4.
She then left the store, only to return a few minutes later. Another argument followed.
Eventually, a store employee asked all three women to leave.
Cecilia and her daughter tried to leave, but the confrontation continued

Once outside, Simpson and her daughter got into their vehicle and attempted to drive away.
According to authorities, Hampton threw a bottle at their car.
That led to another confrontation outside the store.
The two women reportedly got into a physical fight as Simpson’s daughter tried to separate them.
It was then that Hampton allegedly pulled out a ha*dgun and sh*t Simpson three times.

An emergency room nurse who witnessed the incident later shared what she saw.
“The shooter was saying, ‘Come outside. Let’s handle this outside. Let’s fight outside,’” the nurse said.
According to her, Simpson and her daughter had tried to avoid the confrontation.
“And the mom and daughter were just telling her to, like, go away,” she recalled. “The mother and daughter tried to get in the car to de-escalate the situation, but the lady wasn’t having it.”
The nurse said the situation quickly turned violent.
“They started to fight, and that’s when the lady pulled out her g*n and sh*t her,” she said.
A nurse tried to save Cecilia Simpson as her daughter stayed by her side

After the s**oting, Simpson was rushed to a hospital. Sadly, she later passed away from her injuries.
The nurse who witnessed the incident performed CPR before paramedics arrived.
But what stayed with her most was seeing Simpson’s daughter beside her mother.
“The daughter was next to the mom the whole time,” she said. “It’s hard, you know, because the screaming of a child for her mother is never easy, and it’s never going to leave my head.”

The emotional moment hit particularly close to home for the nurse.
“I’ve been trying not to cry, but just like, you know, being in high school, my mom was such an important person in my life, and she’s the reason I became a nurse,” she said. “My whole family is.”
Meanwhile, Hampton fled the scene after the sh**ting.
Police arrested her later that day during a traffic stop.
Keona Hampton said she only pulled out the weapon after the situation turned physical

After her arrest, Hampton admitted to getting into an argument with Simpson. However, she claimed she only took out her h*ndgun after the confrontation became physical.
Authorities charged her with mu*der.
The case later made its way through the court system, and Hampton ultimately pleaded guilty to mu*der on September 23, 2026.
A judge accepted the plea deal and handed down Hampton’s sentence the same day.
The 23-year-old was sentenced to 30 years in prison for Simpson’s passing.
She also received 303 days of credit for time already spent behind bars since her arrest.
