Like most people, I have a list of places I want to visit at least once before I die. And NYC has always been at the top of the list.
I am from Bangladesh, a small beautiful country in South Asia. I grew up watching American cartoons, Hollywood movies, and reading books based in the USA, so you can tell my childhood was heavily influenced by North American culture. I used to dream about living in New York City, in one of those old Manhattan apartments, walking through 5th ave, window-shopping in SoHo, taking the subway to Central Park, watching the big Christmas tree they place in Rockefeller Centre, you know the whole shebang!
Now I live somewhere near the city, I visit the city of my dreams pretty much every month and still, it all feels surreal. Like I’m still dreaming. So I take photos, tons of photos, to convince myself I wasn’t dreaming!
The city is crazy, crowded, the streets smell nasty, people are pretty rude yet I can never deny the charm New York, the dirty, filthy, crowded, multicultural, crazy New York holds for me.
The perfect concrete jungle.
