The British Actress Wasn’t Actually Raised in the UK
Mia Goth was born on October 25, 1993 in Southwark, London, England. Although she is known as a British actress, she was actually raised in Brazil. Goth’s mother was originally from Brazil, and her father was born in Canada. Goth moved back to England when she was 5 years old. This eclectic upbringing has made her multilingual – speaking English, French, and Brazilian Portuguese.
Acting Is in Her Blood
Although Mia Goth didn’t start acting until she was a teenager, her decision may have been influenced and inspired by her grandmother, Maria Gladys. Born on November 23, 1939 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Gladys is an accomplished actress with over 80 credits to her name. Goth has often called her grandmother a source of inspiration.
Mia Goth Initially Had a Completely Different Career
Before embarking on her acting journey, Mia Goth had already made a name for herself in the world of modelling. At just 14 years old, she was discovered at the Underage Festival in London by renowned fashion photographer Gemma Booth, who promptly signed her to Storm Model Management. This breakthrough led to numerous opportunities, including appearances in advertisements for esteemed fashion brands such as Vogue and Miu Miu. She then began auditioning for acting roles at the age of 16. Although her modelling career has now taken a back seat, she is still widely known for her unique dress sense.
Breaking Down Mia Goth’s Tumultuous Relationship with Shia LaBeouf
Together, Shia LaBeouf and Mia Goth have experienced many highs and lows in their turbulent romance, including public breakups and adjusting to parenthood. The Transformers actor and Goth have had a sporadic relationship since they initially connected in 2012 while filming Nymphomaniac: Vol. II, directed by Lars von Trier. After a stormy 2015, during which a video of the couple arguing furiously went viral, the couple stunned the entertainment industry by getting married in Las Vegas in 2016.
In 2018, it was then announced that the two were filing for divorce. However, they were soon spotted together and in 2022, they welcomed their daughter Isabel into the world. When appearing on Real Ones with Jon Bernthal, LaBeouf got extremely candid about his struggles with addiction and his time in rehab. He then praised Goth for her support, saying: “She was present for me at a time when I didn’t deserve to have nobody in my life, especially her. She gave me hope when I was really running on fumes.”
How One Scene from Her Career Showcases Her Talent
Mia Goth has proven her faculty to lead a motion picture time and time again. However, her disturbing yet powerful monologue in Pearl is a true showcase of her immense talent. In Pearl, Goth plays a woman struggling with mental health issues who becomes increasingly violent and dangerous. In one particular scene, Goth delivers an 8-minute monologue where her character confesses her atrocious sins. The shot was filmed in one take and Goth reportedly filmed the scene multiple times. When speaking with Bloody Disgusting, Pearl writer and director Ti West praised her performance, saying: “She’s on another planet for all that. This is just a complete tour de force and credit to Mia, who A, could do it six times in a row in a day, and B, all of them were good, and she didn’t mess it up. She came in so ready and prepared that we just got out of her way.”
Why Mia Goth Doesn’t Use Social Media
It may come as a shock that one of the world’s biggest stars isn’t on any social media platforms. While many stars opt out for privacy reasons, Mia Goth has a unique explanation as to why she doesn’t engage in social media. When speaking with Vanity Fair, Goth said the she was inspired by Cate Blanchett, who also has no social media presence. Goth said that her “one-time slight desire to get on Instagram was quashed when she learned Blanchett herself is not on the app.”
Her Creative Talents Extend Beyond Acting
As well as being an accomplished model and actress, Mia Goth has explored other creative avenues. After the glaring success of X (which was produced for $1 million and grossed $15 million), Goth became engrossed in the character of Pearl. To that, 2022’s Pearl was spawned, and Ti West and Goth wrote the story together. The movie was made in short succession of X, and was kept a secret during the filming process. Goth also acted an an executive producer on the movie. In 2024, Goth remained heavily involved in West’s trilogy, and served as a main producer on MaXXXine, as well as the lead star.
