If you’re a movie buff, there is no doubt that you have your very own style when it comes to your favorite movies. You know what you like and what you don’t. Have you ever wondered what really goes into a movie? You know, the kind that almost everybody likes? After all, with so many different personal opinions when it comes to movies, actors and performances, there has to be something that truly great movies have in common. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be such a large contingent of the population that likes them.

Apparently, a lot of people wonder about this same thing. About six years ago, Sight & Sound conducted its own research by gathering 358 directors along with 846 movie critics. The goal was to list 100 of the greatest films ever made without any bias concerning genre or year of release. That’s what the accompanying video is all about, and you can watch it for yourself if you simply click on the link at the bottom of the page. If you do, you will undoubtedly see a lot of movies that you probably love to watch again and again.

These are some of the most prolific movies of all time. They weren’t always critically acclaimed, but they have stood up to the test of time in order to become some of the most well-loved movies ever made. A sampling of them includes movies like Chinatown, Blade Runner, The Night of the Hunter, Rear Window, North by Northwest, Apocalypse Now and Vertigo. Obviously, these are movies that almost anyone can fall in love with. Perhaps the thing they all have in common is that they tell a great story and they incorporate equally great performances. In other words, they give the viewers the chance to get lost in whatever they’re watching at the time.
