10 Things You Didn’t Know about Fred Savage

You’d probably have an easier time finding people that don’t know about Fred Savage since he’s the kind of guy a lot of us grew up watching and the kid actor that was on our TV screens just about every night. As Kevin Arnold he was pretty easy to like, though there are rumors that might or might not be true depending on who you ask that a scandal involving him was the reason that the Wonder Years were finally taken off the air. Whether you want to believe it or not it’s a matter of public record and you can see for yourself. But throughout his career he’s been the kind of guy that just seems to pop up now and again and then fade back out of sight once he’s established that he’s still there. For the most part he’s been a very love character all but a few times that he’s stepped on the scene, and it’s been great to see him now and again.

Here are a few things you might not have known about Fred.

10. By the age of 12 he was the youngest person to ever be nominated for an Emmy award.

You could say that he kind of hit the ground running since at the age of 9 his career started up and just kept moving forward from there. Back in the day however he was the kind of kid that you really wanted to see more of because he was believable and could act the part.

9. He directed an episode of Boy Meets World.

This is amusing since his younger brother, Ben Savage, was the main character on the show and it had to be a little different for Ben to have to listen to his older brother for a while and do what he said. Maybe it wasn’t, but it’s still a funny image.

8. Along with Jason Hervey he voices a superhero duo on the Justice League animated series.

If you’ll remember, Jason Hervey played Kevin’s older brother Wayne on the Wonder Years, and it would seem that during this particular episode they wanted to switch things up and make it amusing. They were already playing a superhero duo that were brothers, but they decided to change their roles just to mess with people a bit.

7. He’s a Stanford graduate.

He graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree in English and an emphasis on Creative Writing. Something seems to indicate that he was trying to find a more creative side to his person and perhaps entertain a career doing something other than acting.

6. Fred would definitely advise anyone to have a full life to fall back on upon entering show business.

This seems like it would be good advice since show business seems to be extremely fickle and bound to leave someone with nothing if their career took a nosedive. By having something else outside of a career in show business it would be possible to still be secure and able to move forward.

5. His directing career started in 1999.

This was the same year he graduated so it seems that he didn’t want to waste any time and was extremely set on getting something going. Considering all he’d done in front of the camera it wasn’t too hard to figure out that he wanted to see what life was like behind it as well.

4. Fred has been a producer involved with many different shows as well.

He’s definitely switched it up a bit after getting back into the swing of things and while he’s done what he could in terms of acting he’s made it perfectly clear that he has something else going on behind the scenes, which is actually kind of nice to see.

3. He had a lot of trouble making the jump from child actor to adult actor.

This is something that a lot of child actors struggle with since the transition from child to adult kind of takes away the cute factor from some people and the quirky things they say and do aren’t quite so easy to accept in the same light when they get older.

2. Lately he’s spent more time behind the camera than in front of it.

Some people actually want to direct but never do and some people just kind of gravitate that direction and it’s a good fit, more so than an acting career. For Fred this seems like a positive switch since his acting days weren’t really treating him that well as of late.

1. Unfortunately he didn’t seem cut out for film when he got older.

As a kid he was great. He had what it took to fulfill a role and make it work. But as an adult things just kind of fell flat and didn’t carry the same feeling as they did back in the day.

Some actors are actually better behind the camera.
