10 Things You Didn’t Know about Deadman Wonderland

Have you ever heard of Japanese manga called Deadman Wonderland? If you like this form of entertainment, this is one of the larger storylines that you can follow in terms of volumes of material. It’s been around for a while and it features some pretty dark messages, all of which will be discussed in the following paragraphs where you can learn 10 more things about this particular title.

1. It’s written by someone famous

For anyone that’s a fan of Japanese manga or anime, Jinsei Kataoka is a name that is well-known. People know when they see this name, they are about to be able to take part in a good story that’s well written with a plot that has been constructed meticulously.

2. And illustrated by someone even more famous

The illustrations in this story, done by Kazuma Kondou, are every bit as good as the writing. The two elements come together in order to create something that is truly remarkable, one-of-a-kind.

3. This isn’t the first project the team has worked on

If you think that both names together sounds familiar, that’s because this is not the first project this team has worked together on. As a matter of fact, they were responsible for another popular title, Eureka Seven.

4. It’s been around long enough to have an established audience

It’s hard to believe, but this particular story has now been circulating for 10 years and they’re still coming up with new things on a regular basis. If you’ve been following the story since its inception, you have the opportunity to see how it has grown and evolved since it was first published. If you haven’t been fortunate enough to be exposed to this title in the past, you have plenty of source material to keep you busy for a while.

5. However, there really isn’t all that much material

Five volumes of manga doesn’t really seem like all that much but that was the initial source material that everyone had to work with at first. There were some bumps in the road as far as publication was concerned, so it took a while to get some extra volumes released.

6. There was a real scare for fans when the company attached to this project shut down

As a matter of fact, the bump in the road was mainly tied to that original company shutting down, ceasing operations and putting a very large ripple in the release of this title. For a while, no one really knew how long it would take to get additional volumes released, or if any even would be released in the future.

7. Fortunately, someone new stepped in

Fortunately for fans of this title, another company did come along and step in. They started releasing new volumes almost immediately, effectively saving this story from becoming history in its own rite.

8. They release new volumes often

They like to release new volumes on a regular basis. In fact, they have a tendency to release a new volume of this particular title every other month, keeping fans on their toes and providing a constant source of new material from which to adapt into other forms of entertainment.

9. The anime adaptation has proven to be very popular

The title has in fact been adapted for anime and so far, 13 episodes have been released. It’s been a while since the last episode, several years in fact, so it’s not yet known if any other episodes will be released in the future.

10. The story is a dark take on humanity

This is a dark story, indeed. It starts out with a giant earthquake that happens and takes out the majority of the population. Very few people survive. That’s sad enough in and of itself but the story doesn’t end there, not by a long shot. As a matter of fact it jumps ahead at that point and fast forwards to a year after the quake. A bunch of students are sitting in their classroom and among those students is one person who actually survived the quake. The next thing you know, this unimaginable being that’s half mythical beast and half ghost comes right through the window and slaughters the entire class, save for the one student who survived the quake. The story picks up from there. As you can see, this is something that has some very dark themes in it, but if you really look closely, you can often find parallels with real life.
