The X-Files Season 11 begins production this week on Tuesday, 8th August 2017. Series creator Chris Carter, and fan-favorite producers Glen Morgan, James Wong and Glen’s brother Darren Morgan have all returned behind the cameras. In front of the cameras, series stars David Duchovny (Agent Mulder), Gillian Anderson (Agent Scully) and Mitch Pileggi (Deputy Director Skinner) and now apparently Annabeth Gish (Agent Reyes) have all confirmed their respective returns. Recurring villain William B. Davis (Cigarette Smoking Man), as well as allies like Robert Patrick (Agent Doggett), Dean Haglund, Tom Braidwood, and Bruce Harwood (the Lone Gunmen) all remain missing from the casting announcements. Also missing from the Season 11 casting announcements, Lauren Miller and Robbie Amell debuted in Season 10 as Agents Einstein and Miller.
Mr Patrick recently spoke with TV Insider saying, “I am totally willing to go back if I think it’s the right thing to do and if they want me to do it,” he says. “But at this point, no one has asked me anything; I would certainly be interested.” Mr Patrick continued,”I think the world of Chris [Carter], and I certainly loved the experience on The X-Files.” If he can work it in around his production schedule for hit drama Scorpion he has “no reason to not go back and do it.” Mr Patrick played hard-boiled, skeptic Agent John Doggett in forty episodes of The X-Files seasons eight and nine.
No word from producers yet regarding whether Cigarette Smoking Man or the Lone Gunmen return in Season 11. All four characters appeared on screen in Season 10. When fans last saw Cigarette Smoking Man in last year’s six episode revival, he raved threats at the heroes, Agents Scully and Mulder. The Lone Gunmen appeared in what may have been a dream sequence and in appropriate X-Files fashion was left ambiguous. Fans will remember their apparent deaths near the end of Season 8. I say apparent because this summer’s full cast audio drama from Audible Studios, The X-Files: Cold Cases, revealed Langly, Frohike and Byers to be alive and well. Whether these audio adventures will be deemed cannon in the television version remains to be seen.
