The Top Uses of Europe Song Final Countdown in Movies or TV

Europe is a Swedish rock band that came to prominence in the 1980’s thanks to a competition that was being held in their homeland. Eventually they got bigger than the competition itself and went on to become major rock stars that were just flat out better than anyone that tried to compete in the event that had been created, and thus their career took off. They were popular all the way up to 1992 when they took a prolonged break. They came back in 1999 for a brief reunion but didn’t form the band up again until around 2003, when they started putting albums out again and decided to stick together for good. Since then they’ve been putting albums out again and have been seen as a regular act once more. One big reason for this is that they were featured in a GEICO commercial where people that had once listened to and followed the band recognized them immediately.

There’s nothing like a pick me up appearance to get going again.

5. Super Bowl 43

This was the game that  Cardinals fans were hoping would put their team back on top of the heap since they’d not won a title since 1947, one of the longest drought’s in NFL history at that time. The Steelers would eventually squash that hope however since they ended up winning 27 to 23. It wasn’t for lack of trying however since the Cardinals gave it everything they had.

4. A Fantastic Fear of Everything

This is a rather weird film, even for Simon Pegg, in which is character seems to be afraid of nearly everything around him. A mishap at a local laundromat leaves him and a young woman tied up in the basement where a notorious killer is planning on making them his next victims out of some misguided sense of revenge. If you enjoy Simon Pegg’s style of comedy this is an interesting movie.

3. Strictly Come Dancing

This seems kind of like a hard song to dance to but the couple do a decent job of making it work and moving to the music in a way that makes sense. Some songs don’t seem to lend themselves to dancing that much and need to be remixed or somehow redone. However the song in its original form in this case does just fine as the dancers are skilled enough to keep their movements attuned to the music.

2. GEICO commercial

This is what got a lot of people’s attention and turned them on to Europe again since the song is that awesome. To think that it was an insurance commercial though that had to roll out this famous band is kind of funny, but it’s happened before with other musicians. Remember Eddie Money? He got used in a commercial as well, though it didn’t do much for his career.

1. Europe

Europe is still active today and still touring, showing that despite the passage of thirty years and more they still have what it takes to make it on stage. Classics never really seem to go away barring tragedy and other circumstances.

It’s the final countdown!
