What Will A Tim Burton Directed Live Action Dumbo Look Like?

Should Disney put on the brakes here?  A live action Beauty and the Beast is a bold project and from the early projections, it seems as though it’ll be a box office smash.   But doesn’t it seem that Disney’s evolving a little too quickly with the live-action feature?  What I mean is, how about seeing how Beauty and the Beast fares in the theater before letting Tim Burton take on Dumbo?  Yeah, Dumbo.  The latest news on the Disney front is that Eva Green (a new Burton favorite) is now in talks with Disney to be in Burton’s rendition of the classic elephant who can fly tale.

This wouldn’t be Green’s first time working with Burton— she has also starred in the director’s Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children and Dark Shadows.  The original Dumbo cartoon, released in 1941, won an Academy Award for best score and was also nominated for best original song for “Baby Mine.” The Ring’s Ehren Kruger penned the script for the live-action remake; no details have been made available on how closely it sticks to the original. Dumbo is one of many live-action remakes that Disney currently has in the works.

Let’s go back to Dumbo for a second.  Will a Tim Burton Dumbo film be interesting?  There’s zero question that it will.  In fact I think he’ll do a great job with it.  The only time I ever gave Burton a slap on the wrist was for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory simply because I don’t think you should be allowed to ever reprise Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka role.  But Dumbo?  It’s been nearly 100 years since this classic so I have no problem with it.  But going back to my original point, Disney’s gone from A-Z in the span of 2 movies.  Next thing you know they’ll remake Logan and have it be even more R-rated.  Slow down guys.

However, it’s easy to see that cinema is shifting towards a more darker, R-rated atmosphere.   I just don’t want death and destruction in Dumbo.  That might be too much to take.
