Why You Should be Watching Los Espookys

Los Espookys

If you’re ready for off-kilter comedy that can provide uncertain laughs then you might need to watch Los Espookys since, well, it’s odd enough to grant those laughs and keep you interested to learn a little more. The HBO series is one of those that can’t help but be funny in some regards and then make a person wonder why they’re still laughing or why they were laughing in the first place, no matter that there is genuine comedy here. Fred Armisen, one of the most notable names on the roster, has for a long while now been someone that you can look to for comedy on a few different levels and he continues that trend in this series as people are no doubt wondering just what to make of Los Espookys at the moment but are still willing to watch. That kind of show is hard to put down since you really want to know what’s going to happen next even if you find yourself wondering ‘why I am watching this?’.

One good reason is given by Emily Nussbaum of The New Yorker, and that’s the reality that the humor is just illogical enough, and in the best way, that people want to find some way to make sense of it in their own minds so that they don’t feel that they’re missing out and also that they aren’t left with a giant question of what in the world they were watching. Ever watch a show that you had low expectations for and yet still found yourself drawn to? For some people this might be that kind of show, but many might disagree since there is enough plot-driven content and the characters are easily interesting enough to drive the program the way it needs to be. Horror enthusiasts, whether in real life or on screen, tend to be some of the most interesting people around since they’re almost continually trying to find ways to scare people and increase the shock factor in some ways so as to entertain those that happen to love what they produce. This kind of show is bound to be something that people are willing to sit and watch as it could possibly give them ideas and inspiration or possibly further validate their own love for the macabre.

Despite each episode being only thirty minutes it would seem that the show packs in as much as they possibly can in order to keep people coming back for more, which is a mark of a good to great show since people don’t tend to want to come back for something that’s seen as lazy and lackadaisical. Plus, with someone like Armisen along for the ride you can bet that those around him have been selected for their numerous talents as well, since he’s one of those that seems to inspire greatness in others. Shirley Li of The Atlantic sounds fairly excited about the show and there’s every reason to be since it’s so off the wall that one can’t help but be intrigued by it, and perhaps even drawn in since the ideas it’s promoting seem to range from the ordinary and ho-hum to the out of left field and beyond the ballpark. Imagine someone explaining their character as having blue hair, being heir to a chocolate fortune, and housing a water demon inside them. Yeah, you read that last part right, and you probably had to stop for a moment since the first two sounded feasible and normal, while the third was a ‘what the?’ kind of moment. But that’s the case with just one of the characters in this show since the rest of the program just keeps getting weirder and weirder in the strangest but best of ways.

Honestly this one is at least worth a look even if you don’t find it to your fancy since it’s interesting enough that taking that first look might inspire another, then another, and then a full-on love or like for the show since it’s entertaining enough and creates a fun and engaging story that one might figure is worth the effort of sitting down to watch. Even if you don’t have the time you might make the time since this one is bound to be crazy enough that you don’t want to miss out for a minute since you might want to talk about it later with those that might be watching the same show. Los Espookys isn’t a show that takes itself too seriously it would seem and thankfully it takes enough horror and comedy to round itself out into something that might be one of the better shows on the air today. If nothing else just give it a try and see if the show grows on you after a couple of minutes, since honestly it’s the type that you might find yourself stuck to after a while.
