The 89th annual Academy Awards will air on ABC on February 26 at 7 p.m. ET. And with this special night, you can expect that there are plenty of ways to watch the Academy Awards. Whether you have cable or not, you won’t need to worry about missing the Oscars. Here are all the ways that you can watch the ABC coverage:
Watch with Cable
ABC App: If you have cable you can sign on with your cable provider’s information and watch the Academy Awards on the device of your choice. If the app doesn’t offer live stream, you might be able to use your cable provider’s online portal to watch it live there. Otherwise, if you must watch on-demand, the show will be available the day after it airs.
The Oscars Website: A great place to watch the Oscars and connect with other film fans is the Oscars website. You may need to login with your cable information, but once you do that you’ll be good to go and can watch from virtually anywhere.
Watch without Cable
Digital Antenna: Your first option with anything on ABC should be a digital antenna. This makes watching free and simple! You can also add in your DVR and record the show to watch after it airs!
Sling TV: Sling TV is available for a starting price of $20 and its another $5 to add ABC. On the upside, Sling TV is a great way to watch some popular cable channels on the cheap. On the downside, ABC is only available in select cities. Otherwise, you get it on-demand, so you’d have to watch the Awards after they air. Sling TV works on most streaming devices and includes a free one-week trial.
DIRECTV NOW: DIRECTV NOW is another great option. It’s more reminiscent of cable, though like Sling TV you’re limited to the areas where ABC works as a live stream. You will for sure have on-demand access though no matter where you live in the US. Prices start at $35 and include a free week trial. Most streaming devices pick up DIRECTV NOW, though it doesn’t work with Roku just yet.
PlayStation Vue: PlayStation Vue also offers ABC. The live stream works in seven cities including New York, and Los Angeles. Packages start at $30 and like the other options, you get a free 7-day trial to kick off your membership. PlayStation Vue works with PS3/PS4, Roku, and other devices. Vue also has a cloud-based DVR that will let you record the shows you want to watch.
Clips of the awards and the red-carpet interviews will also be available on Hulu. It’s possible that the awards show will also be available on-demand with Hulu, as they have offered it in the past.
Whether you have cable or not, there is no shortage of ways to watch The Academy Awards this year, so sit back and make sure to enjoy the show! Good luck to your favorite films!
