“Walking Dead” Creator Robert Kirkman Gets Poached by Amazon

The creator of one of the greatest shows ever made, The Walking Dead, is making a big move over to Amazon Prime where he’ll be developing TV projects exclusively for the Amazon Prime platform. This comes as a shock and a severe blow to AMC, who gave creator Robert Kirkman his first overall deal in 2015. This comes as a shock to a lot of people but to be quite honest, seeing how The Walking Dead could be wraping up in the next season or two, there’s no shame in admitting that it might be time to move on.  Still it’s a bit sudden.

Apart from being the creator of The Walking Dead, here are a few other things you might not have known about Kirkman.

5. He wrote a good part of Marvel Zombies.

You remember those creeped-out versions of your favorite Marvel heroes and villains? Kirkman did a lot of that when he was freelancing with Marvel. When he got a deal to do the Wallking Dead however he quickly shifted over from  Marvel to the next company that was going to give him a big break. Since then he’s been doing the best he can, and doing absolutely great.

4. He’s a partner of Image comics.

He’s the only partner that’s not a co-founder but that doesn’t seem to matter. He quite freelancing for Marvel because of this but would eventually do a couple of jobs for them down the road. I can only wonder what it would be like to be a partner at a company that produces the kind of materials that Kirkman is used to. It almost sounds like it would be a lot of fun, but it would likely hard work too.

3. His production company has plans to remake An American Werewolf in London.

There’s already been An American Werewolf in Paris so the natural progression of the movie would be to find another place to go with it or revisit old ideas and make a reboot. It could be interesting given that the technology and special effects of the modern day are so much better than they were back when this film first came out.

2. He’s only written about six episodes of The Walking Dead.

Just because he’s the creator doesn’t mean he’s going to get free license to do what he wants with the show. He gets to write occasionally and he gets to be a part of it, but aside from that he’s more of a spectator and adviser than anything. Being the creator does offer a few perks since he happens to know more about the story than anyone else.

1. He made an appearance in Robot Chicken as himself.

He went on the show to settle a dispute between two characters and was promptly eaten by zombies. How great is that to go onto another show and be “eaten” by the very creatures you write about? That’s something of a kid’s dream come true.

Kirkman leaving AMC for Amazon Prime is definitely a game changer. Hopefully though he finds success in whatever he does.
