The Voice 6.11 Recap: Final Round of Battles Part I

singing

Tuesday night was the final night of battles on Season 6 of The Voice…. or so we thought. That was the end of the first round of battles, but a brand new second round will feature Coldplay’s Christ Martin next week. Last night’s episode was a rather calm, uneventful collection of pairings, with one hopeful aggressively pursuing the one and only remaining steal.

As for the battles:

Cary Laine vs. Sam Behymer (Team Adam): Interesting combo were asked to perform Ed Sheeran’s “Give Me Some Love”. It was pretty much a disaster for Laine, who couldn’t get it done despite a lot of coaching from Levine and mentor Aloe Blacc. Levine picked Behymer and we completely agree with that choice.

Kaleigh Glanton vs. Noah Lis (Team Blake): Blake selected Michael Buble’s hit “Everything” for the family musician and jazz crooner. The song fit right into Lis’ wheelhouse, but his authentic style wasn’t enough for Shelton. He chose Glanton who was up against the odds, but commended her for stepping up the plate. Not a great battle.

Cierra Mickens vs. Emily B (Team Shakira): In one of the better battles of the night, Shakira selected “Brave” by Sara Bareilles for the two powerhouses. I had higher expectations for the performances, but that’s not to say they weren’t good. It was pretty much a draw and while both struggled you could see the potential. Shakira selected Emily, but Usher stole Mickens as she was walking backstage. Pretty cool.

Unaired Battles:

Cali Tucker vs Ryan White Malony (Team Blake): Malony
Christinia Grimmie vs. Joshua Howard (Team Adam): Grimmie
Kristen Merlin vs. Lindsay Bruce (Team Shakira): Merlin

The second round of battles will kick off on Monday night at 8 PM. We’ll be interested to see if the new format benefits a relatively weak season.
