Sum up any final thoughts you may have about this season. What do you hope to see in Season 2? And tell the readers at home why they should be watching this phenomenal series if they aren’t already.
Andy Behbakht: I could go on for hours about this question, but to keep it short: The Flash is not just a phenomenal comic book show–it’s great television in general that is accessible for everyone. My hopes for Season 2 are to see the introduction of other members of The Flash family, like Wally West, maybe a hint or two to Bart Allen, as well as the formation of the Rogues (maybe they could introduce one of my favorites, Mirror Master). I do want to see the evolution of all the main characters after what they went through in Season 1, because it’s certain that you will see them change in one way or another, which I’m looking forward to.
Jasef Wisener: All of the praise that I have for the first season of The Flash has been discussed previously above, but it is truly a great time to be alive when we are able to witness such a fun and solid adaptation of a comic that is completely unafraid to immerse itself into a larger universe, even without knowing for sure that certain elements will work. As to readers that may be potential viewers in the future, I urge you to check out The Flash if you want a wild ride that is full of action and heart.
Nick Hogan: Well, honestly, this show gives me all the feels. In addition to its action-packed sequences, its countless DC references, and its compelling story, The Flash packs a wallop right in the heart. Every character has made me emotional at some point, but the use of John Wesley Shipp just adds another layer to all of it, because he makes me cry every single time he’s on screen. So people at home should watch the show only if they would like to laugh, cry, and be mesmerized by fantastic action and storytelling.
Laura Schinner: Overall, this season of The Flash was impressive, and I enjoyed it a lot. Obviously, I had a few issues with it, but nothing that can’t be fixed going forward (Eddie can come back from the dead, right?). I want more character development for Iris, I want more Joe and Barry father/son interactions, and I want more of Cisco being his delightful self. In the near future, I expect to see Caitlin as Killer Frost and Cisco as the Vibe, both of which I’m looking forward to. If you like superhero shows grounded in emotion and humor, then I highly recommend you watch The Flash.
Randy Dankievitch: Two random thoughts: 1) The Flash just might be the most fun show on television, and 2) Barry talking to his dying mother in “Fast Enough” belongs on every single “Best Scenes of 2015” list.
Araceli Aviles: Ah, the question The Big Bang Theory‘s Sheldon Cooper himself posed! (Though honestly, I truly thought he would have been one of the first to binge-watch.) There’s something for everyone. You want romance, unrequited and otherwise? The Flash has got it. You want family bonds? The Flash has it. You want crazy action sequences and plot twists? The Flash has that too. You want ridiculously complex physics that almost no one understands? The Flash has that in spades. For all these reasons, and everything else I’ve talked about, you should be watching. Here’s the thing, though: this show is like a piece of ice cream cake you swear you’re only going to have a bite of. You get more than one layer of exactly what you want, and once you start, you have no choice but to get sucked in and gobble it all up.
Tiffany Chang: This first season was a really great start to the series. It kept me wanting to find out what happens next as each episode aired. For Season 2, I hope that we will get some answers to the visions from the future during the finale, like why Barry ends up in prison and was the news article that we have been seeing throughout most of this first season really written by Iris. Those who haven’t watched the series should start immediately, because it’s got a great cast (I especially loved Tom Cavanagh’s performance), and a storyline will keep you guessing.
Blaise Hopkins: I’m honestly not sure what I want to see in Season 2, which is a good thing. The Flash really set up its world well, and going forward I have no clue what will come next. Eobard is at least gone for now, and nobody has any clue as to what will happen with the timeline. I feel like The Flash is one of those shows that is extremely hard to predict because of the time travel aspect. I think I would like to see Season 2 address Cisco’s powers early on and have Barry train him in a similar way to Oliver and Roy on Arrow. It would be very rewarding to watch the episode where Cisco finally suits up and goes out with Barry. I’d also like to see Barry and Iris get together without too much drama. She just lost Eddie and still hasn’t fully accepted her inner feelings for Barry, so I understand that it will take time, but I just don’t want them to dwell on it and drag out reasons for her to be mad at Barry.
Overall, I’m not too worried about what will come next, because I know it will be good. That’s probably the main reason I think everyone should watch this show. Not only is The Flash fun and watchable for everyone, but it’s the show you can always depend on. While there will be a week or two where the episode is, overall, sub-par, you can count on great lines from Cisco, touching moments between Barry and his dad or Joe, and a character that you can always depend on. Although I’m a person who loves speculating on theories and what will come next, I’m just going to watch The Flash and see what happens, because I know I will enjoy it no matter what. The show just finished its first season, and between the characters and reliability it provides, it’s definitely worth watching.
Chris King: The Flash had an incredibly strong freshman season, one that only few shows this year have rivaled (and two of them, Jane the Virgin and iZombie, are on the same network as The Flash). As I mentioned above, it’s not just the sense of fun that The Flash has but the show’s heart that make it such a treat to watch every week. In Season 2, I just hope we get more of the same: great superhero storytelling that feels real and human, no matter how sci-fi or comic book-like the series gets. Oh, and some better filler episodes, or none at all. That’d be nice, too.
And with that, we conclude our round table discussion for the first season of The CW’s The Flash. Be sure to check back for more upcoming round table discussions for other exciting shows right here at TVOvermind.
