Although art does technically imitate life, the truth is that TV characters are just that–characters. While they do a great job capturing us and making us love or hate them based on their roles, there are a few that actually makes us a little mad that they aren’t real. There may be millions of different options we could have gone with here, but that’s why we did our research and tried to choose the six best we’ve ever seen.
6. Homer Simpson, The Simpsons
Arguably one of the most iconic TV characters to ever grace the screen, Homer is responsible for plenty of laughs for 20 to 30-somethings everywhere. Known for his crazy antics and donut obsession, Homer would be just about the coolest dad to ever have. The sad thing is that most of your buddies might technically fall under the category of Homer, so, in a way, maybe he is actually real?
5. Michael Scott, The Office
Go ahead and stand up if you think that working for Michael Scott would have been the greatest thing on the planet. Known for his ridiculous theories on efficiently working to sell paper, Michael was just about the most gullible person on the planet–and for that, you just had to adore him. A mix between being awkward, funny and just totally aloof had something to do with that, so it’d be pretty dope having a boss who you were probably more qualified than–yet would never want to say anything for risk of actually having to work
4. Stewie Griffin, Family Guy
Is it wrong to have another cartoon character on our list? Maybe. But we don’t care because Stewie Griffin is the absolute coolest toddler to ever be on TV. Whether he’s scheming something that makes absolutely no sense, talking to one of his stuffed animals or traveling back in time, Stewie stays just enough of a baby without being a complete adult to love. It’s too bad Stewie just lost his good buddy/nemesis, Brian.
3. Sam Malone, Cheers
The ultimate bro, Sam Malone wasn’t only a former baseball player for the Red Sox, but then managed the hippest bar in the city of Boston. A master at swooning the ladies, a dude in the ’80s could do a hell of a lot worse impersonating than Sam when trying to get lucky. We’d say having a buddy–or actually being the guy–who is a recognizable former athlete, who runs a bar and gets pretty ladies is something no one would turn down, so hopefully you have a Sam Malone somewhere in your life to make you seem extra cool.
2. Kelly Kapowski, Saved By The Bell
As a mid-20s guy, Kelly Kapowski symbolized everything we ever wanted when we were looking for a high school girlfriend and, in some weird way, are still looking for as we continue to age–a girl hip enough to hang with the boys, but girly enough to be the lead cheerleader. Oh yeah, and don’t forget the killer looks she had either, giving a killer combo that only a guy like Zack Morris could end up scooping up. Kelly was the raddest, hottest girl in the ’90s, and we wish there were more ladies out there like her.
1. Don Draper, Mad Men
Everything that Michael Scott is on The Office, Don Draper isn’t on Mad Men. Cool, stylish, naturally suave and very arrogant, Draper has all the flaws of someone you hate, but can’t help but like. A womanizer and heavy drinker, Draper wasn’t the type of guy you’d ever want hanging around your sister, but as a boss or buddy, he’d be unbelievable to have around. More importantly, this guy killed it at his job, using all those charming characteristics of his to pitch and sell pretty much anything he wanted to, to whomever would listen.
