The Top Uses of Talking Heads Songs in Movies and TV

Say whatever you want to about Talking Heads but they had a very different sound that was a little difficult to get into but was the kind of thing that grew on you after a while and after so many times of hearing it. They debuted in 1977 and were a very popular band for about fourteen years before they hung up their instruments. They had a couple of reunions in 1996 and 2002 but since then they’ve been pretty well shelved. That’s kind of too bad since they were pioneers in a time when music was still going through a lot of changes and people were still trying to figure out what they wanted to do. Even now a good number of their songs are used in various TV shows and movies thanks to their unique sound.

Here are just a few for example.

5. Storks-And She Was

Storks is a cute and clever play on the old legend of how babies were delivered to people. The movie is made to be a kids’ comedy and it comes off as a very cutesy and even edgy movie that is easy to watch and absolutely hilarious in some spots. It might raise a few questions among children that don’t fully understand the idea of the stork but those questions should be easy enough to answer.

4. Heroes-Psycho Killer

Heroes is a show that could have easily gone further than it did if they would have kept to the original cast as much as possible and created a much more believable story line. The whole Skylar angle was great when it was first introduced, but then, just like with comic books, they had to go and mess around with the original idea and create something so completely off the wall that it flopped right out of the gate. It was fun to begin with though.

3. Wall Street-This Must be the Place

Just watching everything going up in the apartment made dollar signs appear before my eyes. If this is the manner in which the rich and famous live and thrive then being middle class doesn’t look so bad. Function over form isn’t the style in this culture I would assume since a lot of this stuff seems to hold style over everything else in a stunning display that would take a trained eye to appreciate.

2. Down and Out In Beverly Hills-Once In A Lifetime

This film is essentially about a rich couple that has grown so disillusioned with one another that they can’t seem to connect in any way possible until a homeless man tries to drown himself in their pool. You would think that would freak most people out, but somehow they get up the gall to take care of him and actually come to like having him around.

1. Revenge of the Nerds-Burning Down the House

Talk about a fun movie. It took the stereotypes of college and absolutely turned them on their heads in a way that was hilarious and even a bit moving. One thing you should never ever do is underestimate the people that identify proudly as nerds. They’re the ones that tend to get picked on, looked down on and, and eventually the ones that will surprise everyone.

It would be nice if the Talking Heads had another reunion, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
