There are a lot of movies that Foghat’s music has been featured in, but finding those clips is proving to be more than a little difficult. Thank God for IDMb and the ability to verify that their songs are in all of these films. Formed in 1971 this English band has been rocking steadily for over four decades despite a change to their lineup and a brief period of inactivity from 1984 to 1986. In 2000 and 2005 they lost two of their founding members but would eventually bring in new talent to help keep their original sound while seeking to find a new way to connect with their fans. A lot of what you hear in movies is their older songs, and thankfully they haven’t lost a step since.
So while these clips might not showcase the song they’re paired with don’t worry, they do in fact appear in the films.
5. Bad Moms – Slow Ride
Can you believe this is the one song that I could find clips for all over the place? It’s a classic track and in this film it’s perfect considering that Mila Kunis’ character is taking her soon to be ex-husband’s “special car” for the day. There’s something so much more satisfying about taking something that’s not yours and knowing that your cheating husband is just going to be so upset about it. That’s called payback with a side of enjoyment. And no, we didn’t forget about Slow Ride in Dazed and Confused but it’s just the end credits.
4. Joe Dirt – I Just Want to Make Love to You
There’s no way you could possibly leave Foghat out of the mix on this soundtrack. It just blends so well with the movie and the rest of the classics that are featured in this film. Joe Dirt is the epitome of the lovable loser that people either hate for no good reason or find endearing because he never gives up despite the fact that his life is similar to a giant manure pile. Still he keeps on keepin’ on, because that’s all he can do until life stars to get better.
3. Nebraska – Fool For the City
You could say they got the fool part right when attributing this song to the movie. That might seem cruel but the type of mail scams that still go around are seriously damaging to families and individuals alike that choose to believe them. In a country where an instant fortune is still the dream of many people it seems cruel indeed to play with them in such a manner, especially when some will continue to believe the hoax even after it’s been revealed to them plain as day.
2. Spun – Gotta Get To Know You
Okay, this is a seriously messed up movie but it drives home a very solid point. DON’T DO METH. There’s almost nothing positive about this film except at the ending. There’s no real happy ending for anyone other than the fact that one of them gets out of town, one is off the hook from driving around the crazed, drugged out Cook that was making his life even more miserable, and one is locked up in jail where he at least gets free lodging and meals. Behind that good fortune though lies the very stark reality that is addiction and all it can do to a person and those around them. Seriously, messed up, movie.
1. People Like Us – Helping Hand
How in the world would you keep two families so separate that they’d know nothing about each other until the day you died? When Sam Parker inherits a small fortune from his estranged father he’s also given a note that says to deliver it to a person he’s never heard of. The title Helping Hand is more than adequate, as is the song, for this touching movie about a brother and sister that never got to know one another growing up.
Foghat is still going strong and hopefully will for a long time to come. There’s plenty of movies that can continue to use their songs after all.
