Timelapse Video Of A Man Creating A Realistic Chewbacca Bust

This timelapse video of a man creating a life-like Chewbacca bust is amazing. From start to finish it looks like it must take days if not longer to get this thing done, what with all the sculpting that has to be accomplished at first and then the mold casting and then of course the fine details and everything else that has to go into to make the sculpture work. If you’re an artist and a fan though you definitely want to make it look as good as it possibly can and in this case the makeup department on set could only boast doing better since theirs can get up and move around. Barring that this is just awesome.

If you didn’t know what the sculpture was supposed to be without knowing beforehand you might be thrown off for just a moment before the bust really starts taking shape. Once that prominent muzzle comes into play however most Star Wars fans would know without a doubt. From that point on Chewbacca gets even more recognizable when they finally get to painting his nose and then putting his hair on. The baldric confused me just for a moment until I saw the shape of the boxy little things they were putting together. The famous wookie can’t go anywhere without his baldric obviously, as it’s a customary look that has been a part of him for a long, long time.

The detail on this bust however is simply amazing and astounding to think of when you consider the time it must have taken to complete it. I’m thinking a week at least to get everything done but I could be wrong. The level of talent that this sculptor has could be enough to do this in a few days I suppose so long as everything hardens and forms up the way it should. Honestly I don’t know enough about the process to really say how long it should take, but I get the feeling and believe it’s accurate that it’s not a matter of hours.

If you thought watching Chewbacca getting pieced together was cool here’s another one of the Incredible Hulk from Thor: Ragnarok.

This guy is just flat out impressive. Watching him work is almost like a privilege since he appears able to carve the kind of detail into the busts he’s creating that should have him working for a professional studio. Of course since I don’t know enough about him it’s possible that he does, which would only make sense. This level of skill is enough that this guy should be making bank on what he creates. The kind of detail he manages to get into every piece is so mesmerizing that it begs the question of just how these things are stored and if they’re ever in danger from extreme temperatures.

My only concern would be storing them in extreme heat, though I get the feeling that the room would have to be exceptionally hot to really cause a problem. Keep in mind a lot of the materials might be susceptible to high levels of heat, but once set they should be okay. I’m guessing, but it seems like that should be a reasonable expectation.
