As you guys know by now, I’m very fond of the old days of the WWE back when it was called the WWF. Wrestling today is just as entertaining as it’s ever been (if not even more so) but wrestling quality is also a function of your age. When you’re 10 years old everything seems more real so 20-30 years later you end up adopting the whole, “back in my day wrestling was so much better” attitude. While I do have a considerable amount of nostalgia for my favorite wrestlers of my day, I do acknowledge just how popular it is and how skilled these guys are today.
Still though, you can’t tell me the days of Mean Gene, Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Randy “Macho Man” Savage, Jesse Ventura, Big John Stud, Tito Santana, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Roddy Piper, Jimmy Snuka, and plenty of others wasn’t awesome. These guys were incredible.
Speaking of which I know I’ve been running a “Piper’s Pit” segment on this site. Adding to that will be various appearances by pro wrestlers back in the day. I just came across this little gem today and never realized just how incredible it was. It’s a clip of Randy “Macho Man” Savage appearing on the Arsenio Hall show I’m pretty sure that Arsenio had absolutely no idea what the hell hit him.
Is it me or did the Macho Man look nearly identical to Michael J. Fox’s Teen Wolf? P.S. this wasn’t even his first appearance on the show:
