The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives premiered in September 2024 to follow TikTok influencers from Utah through their professional and personal lives. The reality television series spun off Taylor Frankie Paul’s revelation about soft-swinging with her husband. Since then, the MomToks have been up to a variety of shenanigans. From complicated relationships to domestic violence, infidelity, and endless dramas, the series is reputed for its unapologetic depiction of Mormon women.
Ahead of the series’ debut season, the Mormon Church released a statement condemning the stereotypical portrayal of the faith. A petition was also launched on Change.org, asking Hulu to cancel the show for its “multitude of inaccuracies about the church and its teachings.” Despite this, the series returned for Season 5 in September 2026 but has lost several of its cast members. Here’s who left and why.
Mikayla Matthews
The mother of four is the latest cast member to leave the show. Mikayla Matthews’ sunny personality has been a big part of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives since its debut. But she will no longer feature in future episodes due to the show’s habit of platforming toxic behavior. In a lengthy Instagram post on September 14, 2026, Matthews announced her exit, citing “some news” that conflicts with her values. “I made my decision over a week ago, after hearing some news, that I will not be continuing the show at this moment,” she started. “I’ve said from the beginning of this that I’m not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don’t agree [with], especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse.”
“There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly. And for me personally, continuing to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical. It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone’s healing, and the millions of people watching. This show has been a huge part of my life and has helped me provide for my family. I’m so grateful for the experience, and will continue sharing my story, my health, and advocating for myself and others,” she wrote.
“This shouldn’t be “relatable” or entertainment in any way. Supporting an ADULT doesn’t mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change. I was in that enabling cycle for years, and I’m not going to be a part of that again!” Although Matthews didn’t mention any name, the SLOMW fandom believes she’s referring to the domestic violence incident involving Taylor Frankie Paul.
Whitney Leavitt
The mother of three announced her departure in May 2026. For Whitney Leavitt, her time on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has been a stepping stone to pursue other career opportunities in entertainment. After a successful outing on Dancing With the Stars with Mark Ballas, the SLOMW villain pulled off an impressive Broadway debut with her portrayal of Roxie Hart in the Ambassador Theatre’s production of Chicago. Now, she’s set to appear in her first feature film, All For Love, and is also billed for a second Broadway outing. This time, she’ll be playing Sandra Dee in Just In Time.
In all, Whitney Leavitt is leaving The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives due to other career engagements. She confirmed that the fifth installment is her final Season in September 2026, reminiscing on what her time on the show meant. “Five years of my life wrapped into an experience I’ll never be able to fully put into words. To the women I shared this chapter with, regardless of where our relationships stand today, there will always be something that connects us when our paths cross. We shared an experience that is uniquely ours, and nothing can take that away,” she wrote.
“More than anything, I’m leaving this chapter with gratitude. For every version of us, every lesson, every memory, and every person who made these five years what they were. I’m really grateful I got to live it with you. My ‘forever momtok’, I love you.”
Demi Engemann
The first cast member to leave the show, Demi Engemann exited The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives while filming Season 4. Her departure came at the height of her feud with other cast members. In a March 2026 interview with TMZ, she disclosed that her exit was a decision made in the interest of her well-being.
“I will always be the girl who walks away for my peace and mental health,” she said. Engemann hinted that she’s open to returning to the show, but she will decide on that “based on what feels right to me, where my mental health is at, and what’s best for my family.” Check out the four major changes to expect in The Pitt Season 3.
