Those of us that were teenagers in the 90s know at least a little bit about Limp Bizkit if not a lot and also know that during this time the band made their biggest impact since they came out swinging and considered to be one of the hottest new sounds in the business at one time. Over the years they’ve taken on a lot of criticism and even kind of dipped in terms of their popularity but one thing about them that no one can deny is that they were highly addictive at one point. The angry delivery that Fred Durst was capable of giving and the elaborate outfits and looks that Wes Borland has devised have made this a memorable band that hasn’t gone away but has definitely taken their place as a group to enjoy. In many ways you either like Limp Bizkit or you don’t since throughout the years their sound has definitely changed and not always for the better.
Here are five of their best songs from throughout their career.
5. Faith
When they were first hitting their stride in the mainstream this is one of the songs that really got them noticed since right away a lot of people noted that it was a spin off of the George Michael song and was perhaps an homage or something similar. Then Durst explodes during the first rendition of the chorus and you get the idea that this song is anything but an homage to the original. That’s the allure though since this is what Limp Bizkit became known for in part, Durst’s explosive outbursts on the mic that would flow into something that would bind the outbursts together throughout the song. That’s just one part of what made them famous after all.
4. Nookie
One great aspect of LB is that they didn’t stick to just one subject but kind of danced around a few of them in their songs, meaning they don’t talk about just ONE THING at all times, but incorporate a few different aspects of life that can be taken from personal experience and shared with the crowd. This one in particular was something that a lot of guys might be able to relate to since let’s be honest, guys do a lot of stupid things when it comes to women no matter if they’re justified or not. Is it the fault of the women? Absolutely not, but guys will still act the part of the fool now and again for reasons that are, for better or worse, less noble than we like to admit.
3. Break Stuff
Break Stuff is just one of those songs that you can get into when you’re having a bad day and want to feel aggressive without actually GETTING aggressive. Listen to the lyrics and you’ll find that it might actually mirror how a lot of people experience a bad day at times. It’s kind of short and is over way too soon but the beauty of it is that you can play this song a couple of times and it might actually calm you down since by the time you’re done singing along you’ll have worn off a great deal of energy and feel like you can actually sit back and calm down. For all their frantic and aggressive energy Limp Bizkit is the kind of band that can really mellow a person out after jazzing them up.
2. My Way
Some songs are fun, well….just because. The lyrics and feel of this track might make it seem a bit selfish but if you’re speaking honestly there are those days in your life when you just want everything to go your way no matter how it has to happen. It might not be all the time and it might not be something you admit but at the very least most people want at least one day in their lives to go according to their desires without any hiccups or unforeseen bumps in the road so to speak. This song is all about that, it’s my way or the highway. Honestly a lot of us don’t get this all that often, but it’s nice to dream about just one day.
1. Rollin’
For anyone that watches the WWE the crowning moment for this song was when it got used over and over for the revitalized Undertaker when he came back to WWE and made his entrance via motorcycle to this track. When the song hit and you saw Taker rolling on down the ramp the arena exploded with noise as people cheered without abandon for one of the greatest wrestlers and entertainers of all time. As the American badass he found a new level of fame that, for a while, was absolutely awesome. That being said, this song is an adrenaline-laced punch to the senses that helped keep Limp Bizkit relevant for a good amount of time.
Just one, more fight….
