After 40 years and a lot of former band members Boston has easily become one of the most recognizable bands in the industry and one that many people would agree or disagree deserves the status of legendary. Their fame came in the 70s and 80s primarily as the 90s and beyond have belonged in a large part to bands and musicians that have been able to take hold of many an audience due to various methods that have been able to catch the eye, the ear, and the attention of those that are still into good music but are easily distracted by the newest thing on the market. Boston is definitely for those that still care about the music in a slightly different way, meaning it’s not all flash and pizzazz since they deal in content and a story that’s told within the lyrics. Without all the flash they’re still one of the best bands around.
Here are a couple of their songs being used in movies and TV.
5. South Park – Smokin
In some ways it’s hard to imagine that South Park ever took off like it did, but in a major way it’s not too hard to see how people connected to it and made the show into something that would last as long as it has. In the beginning the show rubbed a lot of people the wrong way since Matt Stone and Trey Parker didn’t seem to care or have any regard for anything other than the off-color and lewd humor they wanted to bring. But throughout the years a lot of people have been turned on to South Park and many of them have simply felt that the jokes and the content are nothing more than humor to be enjoyed or ignored. That is a good point really.
4. The Middle – More Than A Feeling
This show is at best funny and even kind of easy to relate to if you have more than one kid since the family is kind of dysfunctional in the way they deal with one another but also very middle of the road when it comes to how their problems tend to get solved. Few things ever really bring them together for more than a moment, but when it does happen it’s something of a miracle since they’re all such different people and quite honestly the kids are about as weird as can be. Yet for all that the family does manage to stick together through everything somehow and even better, they do manage to find common ground now and again.
3. The Men Who Stare at Goats – More Than A Feeling
If you want a big dose of crazy mixed in with a military movie this is it. But on top of that you can find a great deal of new age thinking that insists that people can do far more than we’re capable of, meaning we can phase through walls, turn invisible, or practice remote viewing. While human beings might be capable of a lot more than we’ve seen to date, this movie kind of takes you on a ride that seems as though it might be one long LSD trip rather than an exploration into anything rational that might explain away the nuttiness of it. In the end though you can’t help but think that there is a point to be made.
2. Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa – More Than A Feeling
With a cast like this and characters that are so vastly different you could only expect it to be a comedy since the manner in which they’re put together would otherwise be at tragedy if you allowed nature to follow its intended course. But given that it’s a kids movie making them all friends and having them go through one bit of adversity after another to discover how much they mean to each other is the best way to get through to people. You can imagine that it might be tough for animals that were essentially raised in captivity to really get along in the wild, but this bunch seems to do well enough.
1. The Voice – More Than A Feeling
This seems to be one of Boston’s most popular and widely-used songs for a lot of reasons, one being that it’s just a really fun song to sing. Fans might argue that it’s not their greatest song or at least not their only good song, but people will tend to gravitate towards what they like and this song does tend to come up quite a bit when it comes to TV and movies. For whatever reason it’s seen as a very uplifting and useful track that can be placed just about anywhere that a scene utilizing some form of irony or comedy might call for it.
The classics aren’t bound to die out anytime soon, especially since the coming generations are picking up on them.
