Ten Things You Didn’t Know About ‘The Foreigner’

The Foreigner is a different kind of movie for Jackie Chan. It doesn’t focus so much on his fighting ability as it does the reason why he’s fighting. Those that love to see him utilizing everything he can in order to beat the bad guys might be in for a letdown since this is a much more thrilling movie and doesn’t seek to entertain as much. Chan is the father of a young woman that is killed in a London bombing that a rogue faction of the IRA takes credit for. He then goes after a high-ranking official that was once an IRA member in order to get the names of the bombers, and in doing so begins a bloody feud with the individual as he seeks to avenge his daughter. It’s one of the few movies that Chan doesn’t get to show his customary good nature and highly-entertaining antics.

But it’s definitely a good movie to watch if you’re into intrigue.

10. Liam Hennessey is thought to be based on a real-life politician.

He’s thought to be based on politician Gerry Adams, who denies ever having been involved with the IRA. He did however become the leader of the political branch of the IRA.

9. The London bombing scared a lot of people in real life.

No one was told in advance that a bomb was going to be set off. While the damage wasn’t real the scare was and people were calling the police left and right.

8. Jackie Chan sings during the closing credits.

Chan, who has been a popular singer in his own country for quite a while, sings A Common Man during the end credits.

7. The movie is derived from the book, The Chinaman.

The title was obviously changed but the name Quan is still used a good number of times throughout the movie.

6. Pierce Brosnan and Jackie Chan have both starred in the same movie, just in different versions.

They’ve both starred in different versions of Around the World in 80 Days. Brosnan was in the TV version while Chan was in the theater version.

5. The film was banned from Northern Ireland.

You can just bet that they didn’t like how they were represented. However they can still get it on Netflix.

4. Quan doesn’t kill anyone but the bombers, and he leaves the female bomber alive.

There was a definite code of honor in the film that only Quan seemed to live by, since everyone else seemed content with bombing or killing anyone in the way.

3. There were two technicians on board the bus when the bomb went off.

They were aboard when it went off so that it would work properly. No doubt they were well shielded from the blast.

2. This is the second time that Jackie Chan has been in a film with a former James Bond actor.

He was in Cannonball Run with Roger Moore.

1. This is director Martin Campbell’s first film in six years. 

There might be a reason he stayed away since his last film was Green Lantern.

The Foreigner was surprisingly a very good film.
