Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany has always been pretty great at doing accents, and she’s had to be, since she plays so many different characters on the BBC America series. However, last night on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, she proved that she’s not only good with accents but also with languages.
“I do enjoy them,” Maslany said about accents. “And I grew up with a lot of languages in the house. My mom speaks fluent German, French, and Spanish.”
After Maslany and Colbert spoke a little German together (Colbert got through one phrase before calling it quits), he asked the Orphan Black actress if she had a favorite German word. Of course, Maslany had one ready to go, and the word translates to “a face that begs to be punched.”
When Colbert asked Maslany if it was a common German word, she said that it had to be common enough for it to come up in conversation. She even told him that he’d be able to look up the word and find it on the Internet “apparently with a lot of photos of Ted Cruz.”
Orphan Black Season 4 kicks off on Thursday, April 14, at 9 p.m. on BBC America. Watch Stephen Colbert’s interview with Tatiana Maslany below:
