10 Things You Didn’t Know about Tame Impala

Being big on the music scene is a very broad and sweeping statement since it can mean a wide variety of things that might encompass everything from the most basic and simple-sounding vibes to the most complex and hard to understand notes ever conceived by a musician. But Tame Impala seems to fall somewhere in the middle there as it’s the kind of music that people do tend to like and flock to but it’s also the type that you might have listen to more than once in order to really understand what’s going on. While Tame Impala has been around long enough by now to be considered a success there’s still the likelihood that not a whole lot of people know about the band or have really come to appreciate the sound that is produced. While this doesn’t mean much (there are plenty of bands that aren’t well-known but do well) it does seem to indicate that the band might need to gain a little more exposure in certain areas, if that is indeed the intended desire.

Here are a few things about Tame Impala that you might not have known.

10. In 2007 he posted to MySpace and attracted the interest of several labels.

Anyone remember MySpace? Kevin Parker, the frontrunner for Tame Impala, started cutting tracks over a decade ago and managed to get noticed by several labels that were suitably impressed and wanted to share his sound with others.

9. He’s in his 30s.

Parker isn’t exactly a young man but he does still have a lot of time left to continue and bolster a career that has already seen him amass a fan base that has followed him long enough that it could be grounds to call his band a success. What he has in store next for the fans is usually unknown until it comes along, but so far they haven’t been disappointed.

8. He does play a large array of instruments.

Anyone that can play more than one or two instruments definitely has the kind of musical skill that is needed in this profession since not only can they cover just about anything and everything when it comes to making a track, but they’re versatile enough that they can take up a different instrument if they happen to find another band member that specializes in one particular instrument. It’s still amazing though to see people with this level of talent.

7. He’s been a big part of the music scene in Perth.

It would seem that Parker has stuck mostly to his part of the world while his sound has gone much further. This isn’t to say that he’s never been out of Perth, it simply seems that he’s more integrated here than anywhere else.

6. His net worth isn’t fully known.

A couple of sites put it anywhere between $100k to $1 million, but it’s hard to tell when solid, concrete numbers aren’t given. The chances of Tame Impala being worth multi-millions seems slim at this point but there’s no doubt that the band is worth a good chunk of money.

5. His creative process is something that takes a lot of patience.

Everyone has their own needs when it comes to creating and while it’s hard to see the method behind the madness at times there is something going on in the mind of those that try to create something that’s pure, that vibes, and that is all their own. His process seems to involve smoking a bit of weed and kicking back to let things flow. There are worse processes in the world to be certain.

4. He’s big into the psychedelic rock scene.

Some folks might have thought this died out in the 70s and tried to make an unsuccessful resurgence in later decades, but in truth it’s never really gone away since it’s something that’s felt more than produced and is typically enjoyed by those that like something a little more mellow and not quite as forceful or direct.

3. Despite his success he hasn’t made much.

According to Joe Harris of Tone Deaf Kevin hasn’t really seen much of anything that could be called profits despite the fact that people are starting to hear about Tame Impala more and more.

2. This is the kind of music that one has to be into to understand.

There are so many different types of music in the world today that sound so alike that one has to have a truly discerning ear to really differentiate them all from each other. But those that can definitely know what they like.

1. There’s not a lot of in-depth information on him on the internet.

It’s honestly easier to find multiple sites that will offer up the band’s music rather than personal information.

As the years keep rolling on the information might keep flowing in.
