Sylvester Stallone Starring in The Purge 5? It’s Possible

It might be hard to imagine why, or not, but The Purge has become quite a sensation with people and it’s attracted a few notable names throughout its continued history since it first arrived on the scene. This time around though it sounds as though Sylvester Stallone might be a possible addition to the Purge 5 as it would seem that Blumhouse and Sly have been talking it up. The overall plot doesn’t seem likely to change since the annual purge is something that drives the movie and keeps things interesting, but since the last movie showed how things kicked off one can only one imagine that another movie would be a jump forward in time to see just how the Purge has really affected the nation and whether or not it is a continued success. That’s a theory anyway and just as sound as the idea that Stallone will actually say yes to his place in the movie that Blumhouse is trying to make, meaning that nothing is certain yet. It seems likely that Ryan Scott from MovieWeb and any like-minded individuals would be rooting for this, but we’ll have to wait and see how things go.

Stallone, for as old as he is and with as successful of a career as he’s had, seems to be fading in and out at times these days. Some of his movies definitely need to close out and in some cases it almost feels as though he needs to finally retire or at least slow down. But that doesn’t seem to be on his mind since he keeps going and keeps finding new projects to hold onto. There’s the rumor of him creating another Rocky movie when the sentiment in Creed II showed that he was finally passing the torch, there’s the welcome idea that Rambo 5 will be his last, and as for the Expendables, well, so long as he can pull a group of action stars together it’s hard to say whether or not he’s really going to be able to lay that mantle down. But in terms of his joining the next Purge movie it’s hard to say just where he would fit in, but there are a couple of ideas.

Almost no one can see Stallone playing the part of a wealthy socialite since that just doesn’t seem to be his thing. But there’s an idea that he could play a figure not unlike that of Frank Grillo in the second Purge, someone that’s trying to survive and in the attempt seeks to help others as well. That almost seems like it would be up Stallone’s alley in a much bigger way than anything else could be. It might be a return to a kind of Rambo-like character for him, but it does seem like something that would work far better simply because Sly isn’t really the kind of actor you’d imagine seeing as one of those cowering behind fortified steel and brick. He could even be something like a Harry Brown character as was played by Michael Caine, an older man that still knows his way around and can’t stand to see injustice done to anyone no matter if it’s legal for a period of time. That seems more along the lines of what Stallone might be capable of and what would fit best if he was to take on the idea of starring in the next Purge movie. Anything less than this seems like it would be a waste of his talents and something that might cause a lot of confusion among the fans. After all, Stallone is an action hero and has been well-established as one for years no matter that he’s tried his best to break into other genres. It hasn’t worked all that well if people can remember.

It’s true he’s been able to hold his own when it comes to drama and comedy, but anything that has to do with horror is something he’s had little to no real experience with. Given that the Purge movies tend to have plenty of action though it could possibly work since this is well within his wheelhouse. But again, it does seem as though he’d need to be a character that’s down on his luck, grizzled, or just fed up with the Purge and feels the need to go out and defend people or at the very least work against the Purge somehow, as this fits his character more than anything. Ever notice how Stallone is usually the hero, however reluctant, in most of his movies? That feels like the only way to go at this point if he did say yes, since anything else really seems like it might not be a good fit. But until we learn more, people are going to have to just wait and possibly hope for it.
